Technical Specialist

FLSA Status: Exempt

The Opportunity

This position provides technical expertise across the full project lifecycle, supporting sales, customers, contractors, and internal teams. This role is focused on equipment design support, order accuracy, installation verification, start-up coordination, and post-start-up technical issue resolutions. The Technical Specialist is not a start-up technician but serves as a high-level technical resource for complex, recurring, or critical issues related to LG equipment and controls.

Responsibilities

Estimating & Pre-Sales Support

  • Assist the sales team with LG equipment design and selection during the estimating phase.
  • Review project-specific control requirements and ensure LG equipment selections meet all specified criteria.
  • Provide technical guidance to ensure proposed solutions align with customer and project requirements.

Procurement Support

  • Assist with and help ensure equipment orders are accurate, complete, and aligned with approved designs and customer expectations.
  • Review order details to minimize errors, rework, or field issues.

Installation Oversight

  • Verify proper installation of LG equipment in accordance with project requirements and manufacturer standards.
  • Oversee piping walk-troughs for split systems, both pre-installation and post-installation.
  • Update and help standardize pre-start-up checklists to improve consistency and readiness.

Start-Up Coordination

  • Assist with the preparation of configuration and setpoint sheets for the service team.
  • Review service post-startup configuration files to verify accuracy and completeness.
  • Coordinate with the sales team, which is responsible for obtaining post-start-up files from Service and transmitting them internally as required.
  • Support commissioning of controls in collaboration with the controls contractor, as needed.

Post-Start-Up Technical Support

  • Provide ongoing technical support to the sales team, customers, contractors, and building owners.
  • Focus on investigating and resolving major, complex, or recurring system issues (not routine start-up activities).
  • Service as a technical resource for troubleshooting and problem resolution related to LG equipment and controls.
  • Attend LG-specific project meetings as a technical representative when required

The Required Profile

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Engineering Technology, or related field, or equivalent HVAC industry experience.
  • 5+ years of experience in commercial HVAC equipment application, technical support, or system design.
  • Strong working knowledge of LG equipment, HVAC systems, and applied mechanical solutions.
  • Experience with equipment selection, design review, and order accuracy for commercial projects.
  • Understanding of HVAC controls, commissioning processes, and system integration.
  • Ability to review project specifications, submittals, and controls requirements for compliance.
  • Experience verifying equipment installation and supporting field walk-throughs.
  • Proven ability to troubleshoot complex or recurring HVAC and controls issues post-start-up.
  • Strong communication, organization, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work independently and collaborate effectively with sales teams, contractors, service personnel, and customers.

  • Proficient in standard office software and technical applications related to HVAC design and documentation.

Environmental Requirements

This position operates in a combination of office, job site, and mechanical room environments. Occasional exposure to construction sites, mechanical spaces, and varying environmental conditions, including heat, cold, noise and dust.

Physical Demands

Ability to walk job sites, climb stairs and ladders, and access rooftop or confined mechanical spaces as needed. Ability to stand, walk, or sit for extended periods of time. Ability to lift and carry up to 25 pounds occasionally. Use of personal protective equipment (PPE) as required while on job sites.
