Job Description

Steelmaking coal is an essential ingredient in blast-furnace steel manufacture, producing steel used for critical building and infrastructure around the world. In Australia, we operate five steelmaking coal mines in Queensland’s Bowen Basin, and have additional joint venture interests in steelmaking coal and manganese, as well as copper exploration projects underway in North West Queensland and Western Australia.

Anglo American is seeking a motivated and detail-focused Commercial Finance Coordinator to join the team at Moranbah North Mine.

This site based role is offered Monday to Friday, with FIFO or DIDO options available. It will suit someone who is accurate, proactive and confident engaging with both operational and finance stakeholders.

Reporting to the Commercial Finance Manager, you will support month end reporting, forecasting and financial performance analysis. You will help turn financial data into clear, practical insights that support informed business decisions.

About the role

In this role, you will be responsible for:

  • Coordinating accurate and timely month-end financial reporting.
  • Supporting forecasting, budgeting and financial planning activities.
  • Reviewing cost performance, investigating variances and identifying financial risks
  • Working with cost centre owners to understand expenditure, commitments and forecast requirements.
  • Preparing financial reports, presentations and supporting information for business reviews.
  • Providing clear, practical financial advice to operational and functional stakeholders.
  • Supporting business cases and capital expenditure requests.
  • Maintaining accurate financial records, trackers and supporting documentation.
  • Improving financial reporting, data quality and finance processes.
  • Ensuring financial governance, approvals and internal controls are followed.

Qualifications

About you

To be successful, you will bring:

  • A qualification in accounting, finance, commerce, business or a related discipline.
  • CA or CPA qualifications, or progress towards them.
  • Experience in financial reporting, month end, forecasting, budgeting or management accounting.
  • Strong Excel skills and confidence working with financial data.
  • A high level of accuracy, attention to detail and the ability to identify errors or unusual results.
  • Strong communication skills and confidence engaging with operational leaders and cost centre owners.
  • A proactive, solutions-focused approach and the ability to manage competing priorities.
  • Experience with SAP or another large financial system would be advantageous.
  • Experience in mining, resources, heavy industry or another operational environment would be highly regarded.
