With one of the largest listed defence company market capitalisations in Australia and having raised approximately $250m in 2024 alone, DroneShield is undergoing hypergrowth stage, fuelled by rapidly increasing use of drones for nefarious applications, from battlefield, to terrorism, to contraband delivery and commercial espionage.

About the role

DroneShieldis seeking an experiencedCommercial Directorwith a strong background in sales and business development to join its global salesorganisation. The role can be based inCanberra or Sydneyand will play a critical role in expandingDroneShield’sfootprint acrossAsia-Pacific.

Reporting toChief CommercialOfficer,this positionrepresentsa rare opportunity to help shape growth strategy in a fast-growing, strategically important region within a rapidly scalingdefencetechnology company.

The role sits within a lean, high-performing global sales team and is supported byField ServiceEngineers and senior leadership. Sales motions include a mix ofdirect sales to end customers, as well asdistributors and system integrators.

Theprimary geographic focusof this role will beNorth and South-East Asia, with an emphasis onTaiwan,South Korea,SingaporeandThailand.

In addition, the role will support expansion acrossemerging South-East Asian marketsthat are showing increasing demand for counter-drone and electronic warfare capabilities. Australia will remain an important stakeholder market, but the role is primarilyoutward-lookingand internationally focused.

As a senior commercial role within a scale-up businessoperatingin arelatively newindustry, the successful candidate will be bothstrategic and hands-on.

A competitive compensation package is offered, includinga strong basesalary, uncapped commission, and equity participation.

Responsibilities, Duties and Expectations

  • Develop and execute regional go-to-market strategies across North and South-East Asia
  • Own and grow revenue across priority markets, with a focus on Taiwan, South Korea, Singapore, and Thailand
  • Identify, create, andprioritisestrategic target account lists
  • Prospect and qualify leads through multiple channels
  • Work closely withField ServiceEngineers and internal stakeholders to conduct meetings, demonstrations, and site visits
  • Maintain active engagement with new and existing prospects through thoughtful and structured follow-up
  • Lead senior-level commercial discussions with government,defence, and enterprise customers
  • Build, manage, and support distributor and integrator partnerships
  • RepresentDroneShieldat regional industry events, conferences, and trade shows
  • Support system demonstrations, trials, and installations whererequired
  • Contribute to product documentation, manuals, and standard operating procedures
  • Assistwith distributor and customer training onDroneShieldsystems

Qualifications, Experience and Skills

  • 5–15 years’ experience in sales, business development, or commercial leadership
  • Defence, security, or government sector experience preferred but not mandatory
  • Experience working with smaller system integrators and partners strongly preferred over largedefenceprimes
  • Technical degree highly regarded; alternatively, a proventrack recordworking with complex RF, radar, EW, or sensor-based technologies
  • Demonstrated success in developing and closing complex deals
  • Ability tooperateindependently while collaborating effectively with a globally distributed team
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Highly motivated, proactive self-starter
  • High attention to detail and follow-through
  • Creative, lateral thinker comfortable operating in ambiguous, fast-moving environments
