Commercial Data Excellence Manager

Position:

The Commercial Data Excellence Manager ensures commercial data is accurate, consistent, trusted, and ready for business use across Sales & Marketing functions, Business Applications (CRM, MicroStrategy, Power BI) and related reporting processes.

This role leads day-to-day data-quality routines, master-data coordination, vendor data checks, issue resolution, and business alignment with D&IT. The manager works closely with SD&I leaders and cross-functional partners to strengthen data governance and improve confidence in commercial reporting and decision-making.

Responsibilities:

  • Commercial master data management
  • Define and maintain clear standards, ownership routines, and controls for commercial master data.
  • Manage key data areas such as customers, outlets, products, territories, contracts, reporting hierarchies, and reference data.
  • Help keep master data aligned across source systems, reporting tools, and related business processes.
  • Data quality and issue resolution
  • Set practical data-quality expectations for accuracy, completeness, consistency, timeliness, and usability.
  • Create simple monitoring routines and issue tracking so data concerns are visible and addressed quickly.
  • Lead follow-up on recurring or high-impact issues, including root-cause reviews, action plans, and closure.
  • 1st and 3rd party data stewardship
  • Oversee routines for commercial data created internally and data received from external partners or vendors.
  • Coordinate onboarding, validation, refresh checks, and change management for third-party data sources.
  • Work with vendors, D&IT, Finance, and Sales & Marketing functions to resolve data issues and support reliable business use.
  • Data governance and metadata operations
  • Operationalize the commercial data-governance framework established by the SD&I Lead Manager.
  • Maintain clear ownership, business definitions, key data elements, and regular governance routines.
  • Coordinate data access, retention, and usage expectations with D&IT, Legal, Corporate Affairs, People & Culture, and business stakeholders.
  • Data change support and D&IT coordination
  • Review system, vendor, program, and reporting changes to understand potential data impacts.
  • Support business validation and readiness checks for new data feeds, system changes, and major updates.
  • Coordinate with D&IT, SD&I managers, and business owners so data changes are understood, tested, and ready before implementation.
  • Cross-functional collaboration
  • Partner with the core team to resolve Synergy/CRM source-system issues that affect field execution, program setup, customer data, or downstream reporting.
  • Partner with stakeholders to ensure MicroStrategy and Power BI users have access to reliable, well-defined, and trusted commercial data.
  • Partner with the Strategic Insights function to confirm that third-party data sources, market definitions, and commercial datasets are sufficiently governed to support category, consumer, and strategic insight work.
  • Work with Finance, Sales & Marketing functions, D&IT, Legal, Corporate Affairs, and People & Culture to align data standards with business processes, compliance expectations, and enterprise governance requirements.

Requirements:

  • BA degree is preferred. Equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered;
  • Experience in FMCG, CPG, tobacco/nicotine, retail, or another route-to-market commercial environment preferred.
  • Experience managing commercial data, data quality, data governance, reporting data, or related business operations.
  • Strong understanding of how commercial data supports customers, outlets, products, territories, contracts, programs, reporting, and business decisions.
  • Ability to turn business needs into practical data standards, validation routines, and issue-management processes.
  • Strong problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and ability to lead root-cause analysis across business and technical teams.
  • Working knowledge of reporting, CRM, and data platforms such as MicroStrategy, Power BI, Synergy/CRM, databases, or data integration tools.
  • Strong communication and stakeholder-management skills with the ability to partner across Sales & Marketing functions, Finance, Strategic Insights, D&IT, Legal, and external vendors.
