Job Description

t Biodiversity Australia, we're dedicated to creating sustainable solutions that allow people and the environment to thrive together.

As an Indigenous-owned environmental management consultancy, we protect biodiversity and support sustainable development through practical, science-based solutions. Our work spans renewable energy, government, defence, construction and resources, including some of Australia's most significant environmental programs.

About the opportunity

We're seeking a Commercial & Contracts Specialist to strengthen our in-house commercial capability.

This is a newly created role with the opportunity to help shape how Biodiversity Australia manages contracts, commercial risk and supporting processes as the business continues to grow.

Reporting to the Finance Manager, you will:

  • Draft, review and negotiate supply agreements, master service agreements and other commercial contracts
  • Coordinate client contract reviews and execution, working with internal stakeholders and supporting commercial negotiations
  • Monitor contractual obligations, pricing reviews, escalations and key commercial requirements
  • Partner with project teams to provide practical advice on contractual requirements, commercial risks and billing arrangements
  • Drive improvements to commercial processes and our business-wide Delegation of Authority (DOA) framework
  • Support supplier onboarding, billing setup and other commercial processes to ensure appropriate governance and compliance

About you

You'll be a commercially minded, detail-focused professional who can provide sound contract advice while remaining comfortable working across the practical requirements of a growing business.

You'll bring:

  • Experience in commercial contracts, contract management, procurement or a related commercial role
  • Experience drafting, reviewing and negotiating commercial agreements
  • Experience using, or a strong interest in leveraging, AI tools to improve commercial processes, efficiency and decision-making
  • Strong negotiation and stakeholder management skills
  • Sound commercial judgement and the ability to identify and communicate contractual risk
  • A practical approach and willingness to work across both strategic and hands-on commercial activities
  • Experience using Power BI or other reporting tools to analyse commercial data and support decision-making will be highly regarded.

Why join Biodiversity Australia?

  • Shape a newly created role and help build our in-house commercial capability
  • Work across a diverse portfolio spanning renewable energy, government, defence, construction and resources
  • Join a growing Indigenous-owned Australian business delivering meaningful environmental outcomes
  • Flexible/hybrid working arrangement for the right candidate
  • Genuine opportunity to grow your role as the business continues to expand

If you're looking for a commercial role where you can influence how things are done rather than simply inherit established processes, we'd like to hear from you.
