Job Description

Position Summary

Hawaii State Federal Credit Union is seeking a Commercial Credit Underwriting & Operations Manager to lead the credit and operating infrastructure supporting our Commercial and Business Banking portfolio. This leader will oversee commercial credit underwriting, loan documentation, servicing, credit administration, and business lending support. Ensuring opportunities move from initial analysis through approval, closing, and ongoing portfolio management with sound judgment, consistent execution, and a strong member experience.

This is more than a traditional credit or loan operations management role. It is an opportunity to help build a scalable commercial banking platform by strengthening credit practices, modernizing workflows and technology, improving decision and turnaround times, and developing a high-performing team. You will work closely with relationship managers, credit authorities, operations partners, and senior leadership to support prudent growth while maintaining strong portfolio quality and effective controls.

If you are an experienced commercial credit leader who combines technical expertise, sound judgment, people leadership, and a passion for improving how work gets done, this role offers the opportunity to make a visible impact on the future of commercial banking at one of Hawaii’s largest credit unions.

This position is located at our HSFCU Headquarters in Downtown Honolulu.

Base Annual Salary Range: $108,900 - $142,905 per year

The posted range reflects the anticipated base pay for this position, with final compensation determined based on experience, skills, and internal equity.

Essential Duties

  • Lead the commercial credit underwriting, loan documentation, servicing, credit administration, and business lending support functions, establishing clear priorities, service standards, controls, and performance expectations.
  • Oversee annual reviews, covenant monitoring, risk ratings, policy exceptions, credit-file requirements, and other portfolio-management activities to ensure timely identification and escalation of emerging credit risk.
  • Modernize commercial underwriting and lending operations through process improvement, workflow redesign, technology, automation, data, and reporting enhancements that improve speed, quality, scalability, and member experience.
  • Ensure accurate and timely loan documentation, closing, servicing, collateral administration, and operational support while maintaining appropriate regulatory, policy, and internal-control standards.
  • Partner with relationship managers and other internal stakeholders to support responsive member service, effective handoffs, sound credit decisions, and successful execution of approved commercial banking strategies.
  • Recruit, coach, and develop a high-performing team and leadership bench through clear accountability, performance management, succession planning, cross-training, and meaningful delegation..

Minimum Qualifications/Experience

  • 5+ years related experience in commercial banking, including commercial credit underwriting or credit administration.
  • 2+ years of supervisory or people-leadership experience, including coaching, performance-management, and team-development capabilities.
  • Advanced knowledge of commercial credit underwriting, including financial statement and tax-return analysis, cash-flow analysis, loan structuring, collateral evaluation, appraisals, environmental considerations, and loan documentation.
  • Sound commercial credit judgment, including the ability to explain credit decisions, risks, and operational issues clearly to business partners and leadership.
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education and relevant experience.

Preferred Qualifications/Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in finance, accounting, business, or a related field.
  • Demonstrated success improving lending processes, workflows, systems, reporting, or operating practices while maintaining appropriate risk and control standards.
  • Experience implementing commercial lending technology, workflow automation, portfolio-monitoring tools, data reporting, or credit-process improvements.
