Anglo American Steelmaking Coal

Steelmaking coal is an essential ingredient in blast-furnace steel manufacture, producing steel used for critical building and infrastructure around the world. In Australia, we operate five steelmaking coal mines in Queensland’s Bowen Basin, and have additional joint venture interests in steelmaking coal and manganese, as well as copper exploration projects underway in North West Queensland and Western Australia.

The Anglo Steelmaking Coal (SMC) Supply Chain team is responsible for the end-to-end management of all procurement activities for SMC, including Category Management, Sourcing & Contracts, Project Procurement and Purchasing. The team works with SMC corporate and site stakeholders to implement and manage performance of contracts and suppliers, grow the host community supply base and ensure effective supply of goods and services required for operation.

We are seeking a Commercial Analyst to join our Supply Chain team in Brisbane. This role is ideal for an procurement professional or someone from a background within mining.

As a Commercial Analyst, you will play a key role in supporting end‑to‑end procurement and contract management activities across several key service categories. These may include equipment hire, vehicle hire, facilities management, maintenance services, consultancy services and MRO.

Key responsibilities:

  • Lead and manage end-to-end tender processes, including scope development, market engagement, evaluation, negotiation, and contract award
  • Source, review and benchmark supplier quotes for contracts with low to medium risk, complexity and value
  • Negotiate competitive rates and commercial terms
  • Draft contract documentation from existing contract templates, including scopes of work, rates, special conditions and departures
  • Prepare contracts for approval and execute them in line with governance requirements
  • Conduct post‑award contract management, including amendments, rate reviews, supplier benchmarking
  • Oversee contract lifecycle timelines and implement actions to maintain continuous supply availability.
  • Actively track commercial dashboard KPIs (e.g., lead times, contract coverage, category/supplier/ contractor performance etc) and proactively address and escalate issues
  • Build strong internal stakeholder relationships across operations and supply chain
  • Support improvement initiatives that enhance commercial outcomes
  • Contribute to maintaining responsible sourcing and compliance with global commercial standards

Qualifications

Ideally, you will come from a mining or similar industry. You will succeed in this role if you bring a proactive mindset, strong attention to detail and the ability to balance stakeholder needs with sound commercial judgement.

  • Previous tendering experience
  • Intermediate to advanced Excel skills (VLOOKUP, XLOOKUP, Pivot Tables)
  • Strong written skills for preparing contracts and commercial documentation
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management capability
  • Experience across tactical procurement activities and service‑based categories, will be highly regarded
  • Experience with SAP ERP or Ariba is desirable
  • A tertiary qualification in Business, Law or related discipline is preferred but not essential
