Job Description

The Comin’ Up Part-Time Counselor is responsible for assessment, clinical counseling sessions, counseling and wrap-around services, administrative duties, facility and child safety, and administrative compliance. The Counselor will work in the various organizational departments of the Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Tarrant County. The goal of the Comin’ Up Program is to deploy various strategies, programming, and resources to significantly contribute to CCPD’s violence reduction initiatives. The Counselor will help us reach this goal by providing clinical assessments to youth ages 12-18, create and implement treatment plans, conduct individual and group counseling, assist with crisis management, and coordinate wrap-around services for our Boys & Girls Club members. The Part-Time Counselor position works to support evening programming on various nights (to be scheduled) at multiple locations based on staffing needs.

DUTIES AND ACCOUNTABILITIES:

Assessments:

  • Accountable for conducting clinical assessments to determine needs and risk factors, including mental health, delinquency, substance abuse, violence, trauma, and other Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACE)
  • Accountable for creating and implementing clinical treatment plans

Counseling Sessions:

  • Accountable for conducting clinical individual counseling sessions, including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)
  • Accountable for conducting clinical group counseling sessions Creating and implementing individual treatment plans

Counseling Wrap Around Services:

  • Coordinate wrap-around services
  • Conduct home visits and school visits
  • Accountable for crisis intervention and evidence-based interventions

Administrative Duties:

  • Accountable for accurate and timely documentation and reporting
  • Accountable for successfully meeting program goals and objectives
  • Accountable for the oversight of interns and contractors
  • Ensure license remains in good standing
  • Ensure professional liability insurance remains valid

Facility and Child Safety:

  • Accountable for adherence to all organizational health and safety policies and implementation of all safety practices and procedures at assigned work location(s)
  • Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect members, staff, equipment, materials, and facilities. Abide by facility maintenance protocols and procedures to ensure compliance
  • Accountable for reporting incidents and completing documentation within the required timeline
  • Maintain discipline, de-escalate conflict between members and/or others
  • Obtain and renew CPR and First Aid certification by the deadline

Administrative Compliance:

  • Complete all required reports and administrative duties on time.
  • Collect and manage required data and internal and external reporting. Ensure accuracy of data and reporting. Ensure the effective completion of all assessment and measurement activities of programs
  • Comply with all administrative policies and procedures, processes and controls
  • Accountable for accurate and timely paperwork, reports, and data entry
  • Accountable for utilizing all BGCGTC communication tools regularly and effectively

Relationships:

  • Be a positive role model
  • Maintain emotional control and make good decisions under pressure
  • Represent the Boys & Girls Club in a positive manner

Attendance:

  • Regular attendance is required; arrive on time, work required hours/shift, and leave at scheduled time

Requirements

Education and Work Experience Requirements:

  • Master’s Degree from an accredited college or university required in Social Work or Counseling
  • Licensed Clinical Social Worker or Counselor in the state of Texas required (i.e., LCSW or LPC)
  • Must have a minimum of 2 years of experience working with youth
  • Must have a minimum of 3 years of experience providing counseling or therapy

Minimum Qualifications Requirements:

  • Ability to work regular program hours with periodic evenings, nights, and weekends
  • Ensure licensure remains in good standing
  • Holds personal professional liability insurance for malpractice
  • Knowledge of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy; experience or certification preferred
  • Ability to be a positive role model
  • Ability to work with at-risk youth
  • Ability to be patient with youth and adults
  • Knowledge of technology and software such as tablets, social media, cloud-based tools, and virtual meeting tools
  • Ability to provide one-on-one or group counseling/therapy
  • Knowledge of community resources
  • Effective organizational skills
  • Must be able to obtain CPR and First Aid certification
  • Must be able to pass agency background screens and drug screens at any time
  • Must have reliable transportation, liability insurance, a satisfactory driving record, and a valid driver’s license for the operation of a motor vehicle relevant to carrying out duties

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bilingual
  • Management or supervisory experience
  • Experience with behavior modification and positive discipline techniques
  • Knowledge of Trauma Focused-Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT); experience or certification preferred
  • Knowledge of play therapy; experience or certification preferred
  • Knowledge of Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing (EMDR)therapy; experience or certification preferred
  • Work experience with or program knowledge of the Boys & Girls Club Movement (national and/or local Club) is an advantage

Salary and Benefits:

  • Starting pay: $26.19 hourly
  • Benefits: Eligible for paid time off (PTO) and holiday pay
