We are looking for a talented Combustion and Emissions Systems Engineer to join our Cummins Inc. team onsite in Seymour, Indiana
In this role, you will make an impact in the following ways:
- Investigate thermal and fluid system challenges to identify root causes and deliver data-driven solutions that improve product performance.
- Apply combustion, emissions, thermodynamics, heat transfer, and fluid dynamics principles to support innovative and environmentally responsible product development.
- Leverage analytical, simulation, and experimental methods to influence design decisions and optimize system architectures.
- Collaborate with cross-functional engineering, manufacturing, and supplier teams to drive informed technical decisions and project success.
- Execute validation, testing, and verification activities that improve product reliability, quality, and customer satisfaction.
- Support the development and advancement of engineering processes, tools, and best practices that enhance technical excellence.
- Analyze technical data and performance trends to mitigate risks, solve complex problems, and improve product capability.
- Contribute to the successful delivery of new technologies and product enhancements throughout the product development lifecycle.
To be successful in this role, you will need the following:
- Foundational knowledge of thermal and fluid sciences, including combustion, emissions, thermodynamics, heat transfer, fluid dynamics, and energy conversion systems.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities with the ability to interpret data, evaluate system performance, and make sound engineering recommendations.
- Ability to apply systems thinking and engineering methodologies to translate stakeholder needs into effective technical solutions.
- Effective collaboration and communication skills with the ability to work across technical disciplines and contribute to shared project objectives.

Education, Licenses, Certifications:
- College, university, or equivalent Bachelor's degree in Engineering or appropriate STEM field is required.
- Post-graduate (Master's) degree relevant to this discipline area may be required for select roles.
- This position may require licensing for compliance with export controls or sanctions regulations.
Expectations:
- Entry level/Early career professional.
- Preferred candidates would have relevant experience working in either a temporary student employment environment (intern, co-op, or other extracurricular team activities) or as an early career professional in a relevant technical discipline area.
- Knowledge of MS Office tools is also preferred.
Additional Responsibilities & Preferred Key Competencies:
- Support engine emissions audit testing activities, including test execution, data collection, analysis, and compliance reporting.
- Investigate engine performance concerns at the Seymour Engine Plant and provide technical recommendations that improve product quality and operational performance.
- Utilize engineering tools, technologies, and emissions data systems to support engineering analysis and decision-making.
- Apply statistical analysis, modeling, simulation, and validation techniques to evaluate system behavior and support product development initiatives.
- Contribute to Product Problem Solving (PPS), Value Package Change (VPC), Engineering Standard Work (ESW), and Functional Excellence Practices (FEP) activities.
- Support product verification and validation plans through analytical, simulation, and physical testing methods that ensure product capability and performance.
- Demonstrate strong technical documentation skills by clearly communicating findings, recommendations, and engineering decisions to stakeholders.
- Thrive in a collaborative environment by exhibiting adaptability, sound judgment, initiative, and a customer-focused approach to solving technical challenges.
- Preferred experience with engine testing, product performance evaluation, data acquisition systems, test cell operations, and engine emissions regulations.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, PowerPoint, Word, Teams, Outlook) and MATLAB for data analysis, modeling, simulation, reporting, and technical problem solving.
