Job Description

The role

As part of the DDG Systems Engineering, Integration and Test (SEIT) team, the Combat Systems Engineer will primarily contribute to the development of the Guided-missile Destroyer (DDG) requirements baseline and the successful delivery of updated DDG specifications in support of upgrades to the DDG Combat System (CS) under the Destroyer Capability Enhancement (DCE) upgrade.

Further, the successful candidate will:

  • Contribute to and execute activities supporting requirements analysis, architecture definition and development of subsystems and associated components in preparation for integration, test and trials/evaluation.
  • Develop, maintain and update system functional and non-functional requirements and design artefacts.
  • Prepare for and support the execution of major program milestones such as design reviews, test readiness and system readiness reviews.
  • Develop, prosecute and support the implementation of approved Engineering Change.
  • Interact with specialty engineering disciplines, such as Safety, Human Factors, Cyber, Topside and ILS.

Flexible work arrangements such as hybrid work from home / office and a 9-day fortnight will be considered for this role.

About you

Your skills and experience will include:

  • Experience: Up to 2 years’ experience in Systems Engineering activities prior to this role.
  • Education: Tertiary qualification(s) in a relevant discipline (mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, computer science, or a related field), and/or equivalent relevant experience (preferably within the defence industry).
  • Knowledge:
    • Fundamental understanding of systems engineering principles and practices.
    • Familiarity of System Engineering in an ASDEFCON context is desirable.
  • Technical Skills: Familiarity in using systems engineering software tools (e.g.DOORS, Cameo Systems Modeler, etc.).
  • Integration, Test and Evaluation of CS Products into Naval Platforms or equivalent complex Military Systems having challenging constraints (desirable).
  • Combat System requirements within a maritime context (desirable).
  • Working knowledge in one or more of the C4ISREW or Combat System Warfare Domains (i.e. Anti-Air Warfare, Anti-Submarine Warfare and Anti-Surface Warfare) (desirable).
  • Basic analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Communication: Ability to clearly convey technical information verbally and in writing.
  • Adaptability: Ability to work in a fast-paced and dynamic environment.

Applicants must be Australian citizens and hold or be able to obtain a NV1 security clearance. Information including past and present nationality and citizenship may be requested to check eligibility for access to materials controlled under various export control regimes, including ITAR.
