Global Regulatory Affairs, Regulatory Operations
Regulatory authorities and notified bodies regularly issue questions, deficiency letters, and requests for additional information during the review of medical device submissions. Over time, organisations accumulate substantial experience in responding to these requests. However, much of this knowledge remains dispersed across projects, document repositories, business units, and individual subject matter experts, making it difficult to access and reuse effectively.
This project will explore how artificial intelligence can help transform historical regulatory interactions into a structured and searchable knowledge resource. The student will investigate how AI technologies could support Regulatory Affairs teams in identifying similar historical authority questions, retrieving relevant precedents, and developing draft response strategies based on previously successful submissions.
The project may evaluate different approaches to regulatory knowledge management, including AI-powered search capabilities, retrieval-based knowledge systems, large language models, and human-in-the-loop review processes. Particular attention will be given to implementation considerations such as data quality, governance, confidentiality, compliance, and user adoption within a regulated medical device environment.
The outcome of the project is expected to be a proof of concept tool with a practical framework and implementation roadmap for an AI-enabled regulatory knowledge assistant. This work has the potential to accelerate time to market and improve the predictability of regulatory submissions, enabling faster patient access to innovative technologies and extending Coloplast's impact for people with intimate healthcare needs around the world.
This project sits at the intersection of Regulatory Affairs, Artificial Intelligence, Knowledge Management, and Digital Transformation, offering students the opportunity to work on a highly relevant challenge with potential impact across a global healthcare organisation.

Coloplast develops products and services to make life easier for people with deeply personal and private medical conditions. These conditions are often associated with trauma and taboo. The more intimate the condition, the greater the requirement to come closer to customers, understand their world and develop solutions that are sensitive to their special needs. We call this intimate healthcare.
Closeness to all customers makes this possible. We listen to better understand needs and respond by finding new ways to do things better together. We lead the way by bringing the best ideas first and fast to market in the form of medical devices and service solutions.
Deeply private and personal medical conditions are our focus. Our passion to make a real difference to people’s lives is what drives and unites us. Our culture supports high ambitions and releases the full potential of our own people to achieve them.
Our business includes Ostomy Care, Continence Care, Advanced Wound Care, Interventional Urology and Voice & Respiratory Care. We operate globally, employing more than 16,500 people.
