Coloplast R&D/Center of Excellence / engineering analysis. The student will be enrolled in the ongoing activities and discussions within the Simulation Team, focusing on virtual prototyping and modelling.
This master’s project investigates the long-term behaviour of polymer components subjected to highly localized contact pressures.
The main objective is to develop finite element models that describe creep, stress relaxation, and deformation in critical contact zones using suitable viscoelastic or viscoplastic material models. Material characterization and contact experiments will provide data for model calibration and validation, including the effects of pressure, loading time, and pressure-dependent friction. Detailed simulations will be used to quantify changes in local stresses, strains, contact areas, and contact forces over time and to assess their influence on product performance during prolonged loading and shelf life.
Alternative contact geometries will be designed and evaluated through simulation-driven optimization, with the aim of maintaining well-defined load paths while limiting creep and permanent deformation at high-pressure contact points. Relevant design parameters may include contact radius, curvature, contact area, and local component thickness.
The project aims to give practical guidelines for designing stable polymer contact interfaces.

Coloplast develops products and services to make life easier for people with deeply personal and private medical conditions. These conditions are often associated with trauma and taboo. The more intimate the condition, the greater the requirement to come closer to customers, understand their world and develop solutions that are sensitive to their special needs. We call this intimate healthcare.
Closeness to all customers makes this possible. We listen to better understand needs and respond by finding new ways to do things better together. We lead the way by bringing the best ideas first and fast to market in the form of medical devices and service solutions.
Deeply private and personal medical conditions are our focus. Our passion to make a real difference to people’s lives is what drives and unites us. Our culture supports high ambitions and releases the full potential of our own people to achieve them.
Our business includes Ostomy Care, Continence Care, Advanced Wound Care, Interventional Urology and Voice & Respiratory Care. We operate globally, employing more than 16,500 people.
