Lifecycle Management, Global Quality
Lifecycle Management currently lacks a comprehensive and transparent overview of activities impacting individual product platforms within legacy medical device products. Information related to design changes, product improvement initiatives, project work, manufacturing improvements and risk management activities is generated and maintained across multiple functions, governance forums, and systems. As a result, end-to-end product ownership is difficult to establish, priorities can be unclear, and decision-making may be based on incomplete information.
The study will map critical data sources, assess data quality and accessibility, and identify how product information and improvement initiatives can be connected to create an end-to-end product view. It will further explore stakeholder needs, data ownership, and governance structures required to establish and sustain the framework. As part of the research, a prototype dashboard or visualization concept will be developed to demonstrate how integrated lifecycle data can improve transparency, support prioritization, and enable data-driven and AI-assisted decision-making across functions.
The project matters because legacy products represent a significant part of the business and require effective coordination across functions to remain compliant, competitive, and operationally efficient. By improving transparency and accountability, the proposed framework has the potential to enable Lifecycle Management to act as a single point of contact for product ownership, strengthen cross-functional alignment, support data-driven prioritization, reduce duplicated efforts, and create a foundation for future digitalization and AI-supported decision-making.
The project is particularly relevant for students interested in AI, data analytics, knowledge management, digital transformation, and process optimization, as it offers the opportunity to explore how fragmented lifecycle data can be transformed into actionable insights and decision support for product ownership and governance.

Coloplast develops products and services to make life easier for people with deeply personal and private medical conditions. These conditions are often associated with trauma and taboo. The more intimate the condition, the greater the requirement to come closer to customers, understand their world and develop solutions that are sensitive to their special needs. We call this intimate healthcare.
Closeness to all customers makes this possible. We listen to better understand needs and respond by finding new ways to do things better together. We lead the way by bringing the best ideas first and fast to market in the form of medical devices and service solutions.
Deeply private and personal medical conditions are our focus. Our passion to make a real difference to people’s lives is what drives and unites us. Our culture supports high ambitions and releases the full potential of our own people to achieve them.
Our business includes Ostomy Care, Continence Care, Advanced Wound Care, Interventional Urology and Voice & Respiratory Care. We operate globally, employing more than 16,500 people.
