SCOPE OF WORK: Supervises building, electrical and mechanical, and grounds maintenance operations and staff; coordinates construction and maintenance projects; develops and implements routine and preventative maintenance programs; oversees maintenance expenses; and engages in long-term facility planning. This position reports to the President at River Valley Community College.
ACCOUNTABILITIES:
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Education: Associate's degree from a recognized college or technical school with a major study in a building trade(s), engineering, building construction, or facility management or technical training or education equivalency.
Experience: Five (5) years' experience in building maintenance, construction, or in a building trade, including two years' experience in a supervisory and/or project management capacity. Each additional year of approved work experience may be substituted for one year of formal education.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: Licensure or certification in at least one of the following: electricity, HVAC, or plumbing. Knowledge of and experience in HVAC, plumbing, or mechanical engineering technology and project management. Ability to construct and interpret building plans, sketches, and drawings.
License/Certification: Certification/licensure in one or more building trade Possession of a valid driver’s license and/or access to transportation for statewide travel.
RECOMMENDED WORK TRAITS: Considerable knowledge of the maintenance and repair practices in the fields of plumbing, carpentry, masonry, electricity, painting, steam-fitting, and aerial lifts. Considerable knowledge of the needed safety precautions attendant to those trades. Skill in mathematical computation sufficient to measure and compute materials and costs of repair projects. Skill in transferring knowledge of codes, statutes and regulations to practical situations. Skill to interpret schematic drawings and plot plans. Ability to schedule and supervise the work and training of trades and plant operations personnel. Ability to maintain accurate and current records. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, contractors and the public. Some experience with project and task management and assessment of quality delivered. Must be willing to maintain appearance appropriate to assigned duties and responsibilities as determined by the college appointing authority.
