Job Description

The College & Career Coordinator is responsible for the planning, implementation, and supervision of College & Career programs at the site, ensuring that members receive comprehensive support to achieve their educational and career goals. This role involves direct service to youth, managing case managers, and coordinating with community partners to enhance program offerings.

The College & Career Coordinator will work closely with the Director of College & Career Development to execute strategic initiatives that align with Boys & Girls Clubs of Metro Los Angeles' mission to empower youth to Learn, Explore, Achieve, and Dream (L.E.A.D). The Coordinator ensures that programs support the Director’s vision and goals, providing data-driven insights and feedback to enhance effectiveness.

This role is responsible for implementing and growing BGCMLA’s College & Career Bound model, fostering a college- and career-going culture, and strengthening teen connections to the Club.

This position will primarily be stationed at the Watts/Willowbrook Club during after-school program hours. The Coordinator’s morning and early afternoon schedule will be divided between Alliance Cindy & Bill Simon Technology Academy High School and Alliance Burton Technology Academy, based on program needs, agreed-upon schedules, and school partnership deliverables.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

Program Implementation & Youth Engagement

• Implement College & Career programs and services as directed by the Director of College & Career Development, ensuring alignment with organizational strategy.
• Provide individualized college and career coaching, guiding youth in exploring career pathways, setting goals, and developing action plans for post-secondary success.
• Develop and execute activities introducing Club members to college and career readiness, including tutoring, case management, and post-high school planning.
• Lead workshops and initiatives, such as A-G college requirement sessions, SAT prep, application workshops, writing workshops, and college/career exposure events.
• Organize and lead university visits, guest speaker sessions, mentoring programs, and career exploration activities (e.g., industry panels, and workplace visits).
• Support students in developing employability skills (e.g., teamwork, leadership, communication, and problem-solving).

Case Management & Data Tracking

• Oversee an intensive case management strategy, ensuring personalized guidance and resources for teens (9th–12th graders).
• Track youth progress, ensuring enrollment in A-G courses required for University of California (UC), California State (CSU), and community college systems.
• Ensure accurate record-keeping and maintain a data-driven approach to programming.
• Collect and report program metrics (e.g., youth served, SAT/ACT data, FAFSA completion, college admissions, scholarship funds, workforce placements).
• Report findings regularly to the Director of College & Career Development to support continuous program evaluation and improvement.

Partnerships & Community Engagement

• Collaborate with the Director to establish relationships with colleges, trade schools, employers, and community organizations.
• Identify partners and resources to assist youth with the college & career process (applications, financial aid, vocational opportunities, scholarships).
• Organize job fairs, internship placements, and career exploration activities in collaboration with the Director.
• Meet regularly with youth and families, offering support and referrals to community resources.

School Partnership Management

• Serve as the primary BGCMLA liaison for Alliance Cindy & Bill Simon Technology Academy High School and Alliance Burton Technology Academy, maintaining presence and regular communication with school administrators, counselors, teachers, and designated staff.
• Coordinate and fulfill school partnership deliverables, including campus schedules, student recruitment and referrals, workshops, events, data tracking, required documentation, and progress updates.
• Collaborate with school partners to identify student needs, address barriers to participation, monitor program implementation, and ensure services remain aligned with school and BGCMLA goals.

Leadership & Team Support

• Supervise case managers, ensuring effective case management and program delivery.
• Assist with participant outreach through various channels.
• Support the execution of program grants, ensuring compliance with funding requirements.
• Provide insights and recommendations to the Director of College & Career Development to enhance program effectiveness.

Other Duties

• Ensure a safe and supportive program environment for members.
• Maintain comprehensive and accurate records.
• Complete all other duties as assigned.

Requirements

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE, LICENSURE AND CERTIFICATION:

• Bachelor’s degree preferred, but candidates currently enrolled in a college or university will also be considered. Coursework in education, counseling, social work, or a related field is preferred. Minimum of 1-2 years of experience in youth development, college access, or career readiness programs required.
• Experience in case management, data tracking, and program evaluation preferred. Must be able to work a flexible schedule, which may include evenings, weekends and/or holidays.
• Must have and maintain a valid drivers’ license and pass motor vehicle driving record check.
• Pass criminal background check.
• Must obtain/maintain a current CPR and First Aid Certification.
• Pass (negative result) a TB test.

KNOWLEDGE, ABILITY and SKILLS:

Knowledge of:

• In-depth knowledge of various postsecondary options, including 2-year colleges, 4-year universities, trade schools, and apprenticeships.
• Case Management Techniques: Proficiency in one-on-one case management strategies, including individualized academic planning, goal setting, and progress tracking.
• Educational Guidance and Tutoring: Knowledge of academic tutoring practices, educational resources, and study skills techniques to enhance student performance.

Ability to:

• Ability to build meaningful relationships, motivate students to pursue higher education and/or create a supportive environment that fosters vocational interests and personal growth.
• Capability to advocate for members’ needs within schools and community systems while effectively collaborating with parents, school staff, and community partners.
• Ability to organize and lead workshops, college visits, guest speaker sessions, and special events that enhance college & career readiness.
• Ability to adapt to changing program needs, work schedules, and community dynamics to effectively serve youth.
• Learn, interpret, and apply legal mandates, policies, rules and regulations, and operational procedures
• Compose correspondence independently
• Establish and maintain comprehensive and accurate files and records
• Drive agency vehicles and travel as required

WORKING CONDITIONS and DRIVING

• Travel between Boys & Girls Clubs of Metro Los Angeles sites and schools and various field trip sites as well as in the community is required. Must meet the insurance standards of Boys & Girls Clubs of Metro Los Angeles.
• Work is performed in the community as well as an office setting.
• Evening or weekend hours required on an as needed basis.
