Job Description

Position Purpose:

The Uninsured Motorist (UM) Collector II is responsible for recovery of consumer subrogation claims by receiving incoming and placing outbound uninsured motorists (UM) calls for the UM team. The incumbent will successfully negotiate payment in full, settlement in full, or a payment plan based upon client requirements.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities:

  1. Negotiate payment terms and methods when the right party is reached. Review the account information in database, and/or asking probing questions of the consumer to better understand potential objections to payment. Also includes negotiating settlements outside of normal guidelines, authorizing credit bureau deletions, and taking accounts out of treatment (close accounts) with certain guidelines. 50% of work time
  2. Prepare and review each file's initial content while documenting and tracking all ongoing verbal and written correspondence in the AS400 system and applicable client systems. Communicate effectively with insured, general adjusters, claimants, witnesses, attorneys, experts, and underwriters to obtain and or provide necessary information. Update and appropriately document information to achieve recoveries. 30% of work time
  3. Choose course of action regarding new subrogation files to assure cost effective resolution. Review files for adequacy of investigation and measure of damages to initiate collection. Research the application of the law as it applies to specific claims in each state for Department of Transportation purposes or statutory regulations. Recommend whether to pursue collection or litigation. 10% of work time
  4. Utilize Skip Tracing techniques to contact claimants to reach a settlement. Utilize various databases and investigate techniques in locating claimants. Negotiate adjusted settlements and arrange payment plans with claimants and self-insured entities. Identify the difference between medical damage and property damages to recognize the time limits of state specific statute regulations. 5% of work time
  1. Act as liaison between the client and insured communicating various facets in the subrogation process. 5% of work time

Qualifications

  1. 2 years of collections experience required (currently accepting at least 1 year of collections.)
  2. High school or Senior HS diploma required.
  3. Formal training in insurance claims and claims law preferred.
  4. Proficiency with Microsoft Office, computers and related applications.
  5. Possesses strong analytical and negotiating skills and can analyze facts, demonstrate sound judgment and make prompt decisions.
  6. Must be recovery oriented and focused on meeting goals and objectives while acting with integrity.
  7. Possesses exemplary oral and written communication skills.
  8. Possesses excellent organizational and time-management skills with the ability to work independently.
  9. Ability to multi-task with attention to detail and effectively support multiple accounts.
  10. Ability to demonstrate reasoning and problem-solving abilities.
  11. Ability to adhere to call flow outline and follow requirements specified by clients.
