The Collections Systems Manager is responsible for overseeing the daily operations and long-term planning of the wastewater and stormwater collection systems, including associated construction activities and the construction team. This position ensures compliance with all applicable local, state, and federal regulations while maintaining efficient, cost-effective operations. The Collections Systems Manager provides leadership to assigned staff, oversees budgets and system assets, collaborates with vendors and contractors, enforces safety standards, and supports public relations and educational efforts related to wastewater and stormwater services.
Key Responsibilities
Lead, mentor, and coach wastewater and stormwater collection systems teams.
Oversee daily operations to ensure compliance with all local, state, and federal regulatory requirements.
Coordinate and collaborate with vendors, contractors, and regulatory agencies to maintain and improve system operations.
Enforce safety policies and procedures to maintain a secure and compliant working environment.
Participate in public relations and educational activities related to wastewater and stormwater management.
Collaborate with department leadership on strategic, long-term planning and succession planning initiatives.
Promote a culture of safety, accountability, and continuous improvement across all assigned operations.
Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s Degree in a related field and five years of progressively responsible administrative experience in a public agency; or, an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above.
A minimum of two (2) years of supervisory experience is preferred.
Knowledge of KDHE and EPA regulations is preferred.
Valid Kansas Driver’s License required.
Ability to obtain KWEA and/or KDHE Class IV Certification within 1 year of hire.
Demonstrate understanding of wastewater and stormwater collection infrastructure, including maintenance and rehabilitation.
Ability to interpret plans, maps, and technical reports.
Strong leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills.
Ability to manage emergencies, prioritize workloads, and make sound decisions under pressure.
Salary Range:
$32.95-$44.98/hr.
