
The Collaboration & Messaging Solutions Engineer is responsible for the design, engineering, optimization, and operational support of modern enterprise collaboration and messaging platforms. This role serves as a technical subject matter expert across Microsoft 365 collaboration technologies, including Exchange Online, Microsoft Exchange Server (On-Premises), SMTP relay services,Identity-integrated collaboration services, automation, and modern workplace productivity solutions.
The role partners closely with Infrastructure, Security, End User Computing, Architecture, and Business Technology teams to deliver scalable, secure, and user-centric collaboration services aligned with enterprise strategy. The engineer drives modernization initiatives, supports service reliability and lifecycle management, mentors junior team members, and contributes to continuous improvement across collaboration capabilities

Key Responsibilities:
Design, implement, maintain, and optimize enterprise collaboration and messaging platforms including Microsoft 365, Exchange Online, Microsoft Exchange Server (On-Premises), SMTP relay services, shared mailbox solutions, and cloud-based file collaboration tools.
Administer and support hybrid Exchange environments, including integrations between Exchange Online and on-premises Exchange infrastructure for internal SMTP relay and mail flow services.
Manage enterprise mail routing, connectors, transport rules, authentication methods, and secure messaging configurations.
Lead technical assessments, architecture reviews, and solution design discussions for collaboration-related initiatives and projects.
Translate business and technical requirements into scalable, secure, and supportable collaboration solutions.
Drive modernization initiatives across collaboration technologies, automation, governance, compliance, and service delivery.
Develop and maintain automation scripts and operational tooling using PowerShell and related technologies.
Partner with Cybersecurity and Identity teams to ensure alignment with enterprise security, compliance, and governance standards.
Manage and optimize integrations between collaboration platforms and enterprise systems.
Support hybrid and cloud collaboration environments, including migrations, coexistence strategies, and lifecycle management activities.
Provide Level 3 engineering support and lead resolution efforts for complex incidents and service disruptions.
Lead root cause analysis, problem management, and continuous service improvement activities.
Participate in vendor management activities and collaborate with strategic technology partners and SaaS providers.
Develop operational documentation, knowledge articles, support procedures, and end-user enablement materials.
Mentor junior engineers and operational teams while promoting knowledge sharing and shift-left support practices.
Participate in capacity planning, roadmap development, and technology evaluation activities.
Contribute to service governance processes including Incident, Problem, Change, Release, and Configuration Management.
Monitor industry trends, emerging technologies, and best practices related to digital workplace and collaboration services.
Support project delivery planning, risk management, testing, deployment, and operational readiness activities.
Required Qualifications & Experience
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, or related discipline, or equivalent work experience.
5+ years of experience supporting enterprise collaboration and messaging environments.
Hands-on experience with Microsoft 365 services including: Exchange Online; Microsoft Exchange Server (On-Premises); Microsoft Entra ID; SMTP relay and enterprise mail flow management
Strong experience supporting hybrid Exchange environments and internal SMTP relay configurations.
Strong experience with PowerShell scripting and automation.
Experience supporting hybrid Microsoft environments and cloud transformation initiatives.
Understanding of enterprise identity, authentication, and security concepts including MFA, conditional access, and email security.
Experience with ITSM processes including Incident, Problem, Change, and Release Management.
Strong troubleshooting and analytical skills within complex enterprise environments.
Strong communication and stakeholder management skills
Ability to influence and collaborate in matrixed organizations
