Job Description

The Coffee Shop Shift Lead supports the daily operations of the coffee shop by ensuring exceptional customer service, high-quality food and beverages, and efficient team performance. This position provides shift leadership, oversees daily operations in the absence of the Coffee Shop Manager or Coffee Shop Assistant Manager and helps maintain company standards by coaching team members, supporting operational excellence, and fostering a welcoming environment for customer and staff.

Responsibilities

  • Oversees daily shift operations, including opening and closing procedures as assigned.
  • Supervises baristas during assigned shifts, providing guidance, support, and coaching.
  • Assists with training new staff and reinforcing company policies and procedures.
  • Monitors inventory during shifts and reports low stock or equipment issues to management.
  • Ensures beverages and food items meet company quality standards.
  • Ensures all food safety and sanitation standards are met for food and beverage preparation and service.
  • Addresses and resolves customer concerns promptly and professionally.
  • Maintains cleanliness and operational standards during shifts.
  • Supports cash handling and end-of-shift reconciliation.
  • Maintains clear communication with the Coffee Shop Manager, Coffee Shop Assistant Manager and team members.
  • Practices all company safety procedures to ensure a safe environment for team members and customers.
  • Supports achievement of sales, margin, labor, and key performance indicator (KPI) goals established by management.
  • Provides friendly and competent customer service.
  • Reports for work in a timely manner when scheduled.

Additional Job Duties:

  • Assists with other duties as assigned.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

  • Provides day-to-day supervision, coaching, and direction to baristas and other assigned team members during scheduled shifts.

Qualifications

Education and/or Experience (include certs or licenses needed):

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED).
  • Previous experience in a coffee shop or food service preferred.
  • Experience leading a small team or training staff preferred.
  • Experience in retail or convenience store operations preferred but not required.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Ability to supervise and motivate a small team of baristas during shifts.
  • Excellent customer service, communication, and interpersonal abilities.
  • Ability to multitask, problem-solve, and work efficiently in a fast-paced environment.
  • Basic math and computer skills for POS operations and shift-level reporting in both coffee shop and convenience store settings.
  • Professional, positive attitude and ability to maintain composure under pressure.
  • Willing and able to work early mornings, weekends, holidays, and flexible shifts.
  • Must have a phone and reliable transportation.
  • Must be able to communicate in English – IF APPLICABLE.
