About the Position

  • Clinic Coding Specialist
  • Full-time 1.0 FTE (80 hours per pay period)
  • Days, no weekends!
  • Hybrid: Remote and onsite at Grand Itasca Clinic and Hospital

The Clinic Coder codes and abstracts patient information accurately and efficiently in a timely manner.

Here's what you'll do when you join us:

  • Abstracts pertinent information from patient records. Assigns ICD-10-CM or HCPCS codes.
  • Queries physicians when code assignments are not straightforward or documentation in the record is inadequate, ambiguous or unclear for coding purposes.
  • Demonstrates a thorough understanding and working knowledge of ICD-10-CM, CPT and HCPCS codes.
  • Keeps abreast of coding guidelines and reimbursement reporting requirements. Brings identified concerns to supervisor or department manager for resolution.
  • Follows established departmental policies, procedures, and objectives, continuous quality improvement objectives and safety and environmental standards.
  • Ensures strict confidentiality of financial and medical reports.
  • Attends coding conferences, workshops, and in-house sessions to receive updated coding information and changes in coding and/or regulations.
  • Abides by the Standards of Ethical Coding as set forth by the American Health Information Management Association and adheres to official coding guidelines.
  • Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.
  • Ability to meet production standards as set by the department.
  • Codes clinic records with 98% accuracy.
  • Enters coded data into the computer system with 98% accuracy.
  • Perform other related duties as required. This list is not all-inclusive and any other task or job may be assigned in the future.

If you have these qualifications, we'd love to chat:

  1. Within 12 months of hire, minimum of successful completion of a coding certificate program in a program with AHIMA/AAPC approval status or RHIA, RHIT, CCS, CCA, or CPC certification or certification eligible status.
  2. Demonstrated ability to follow and adhere to Grand Itasca Clinic and Hospital policies, vision, mission and values.
  3. Maintains reliable and consistent attendance.

Grand Itasca Clinic & Hospital​, part of Fairview Health Services, is a multi-specialty integrated clinic and hospital located in Grand Rapids, MN. Specialty services offered include oncology, cardiology, orthopedics, OB/Gyn, occupational medicine, and chiropractic. The 50 bed hospital has a Medical/Surgical/Pediatrics Unit, Intensive Care Unit, and Women's Health & Birth unit as well as a surgery center and comprehensive imaging and laboratory services.
