Job Description

RESPONSIBILITIES
Works under the direct supervision of the Assistant Director of Research Compliance. Performs at the advanced skill level of a Coding Specialist. Responsible for conducting clinical research reviews to assess the quality of coding and documentation to ensure compliance with federal and state laws and regulations. Adept at data collection and statistical report generation. Demonstrates individual judgement, initiates work improvement methods. Promotes the University Health System Guest Relations Policy. Complies with all Federal and State regulations and accrediting bodies including but not limited to HIPAA, JCAHO, HHS, NIH, and the FDA. Promotes the University Health System vision of Triple Aim PLUS and assures all projects are executed within the expectations of internal and external stakeholders.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
High school diploma or its equivalent is required, college degree preferred. 3 years of experience with the International Classification of Diseases-Tenth Edition, Procedural Coding System (ICD-10-PCS), and the Current Procedural Terminology (CPT) coding systems is required. Additionally, must hold significant knowledge of Diagnosis Related Group (DRG) as well as Ambulatory Payment Classification (APC). Valid certification offered by one of the following credentialing bodies is required: American Academy of Professional Coders (AAPC) or from the American Heath Information Management Association (AHIMA). Must be knowledgeable of Microsoft Office products.
