Responsible for accurately coding a wide range of medical specialties for ruralMED, ensuring compliance with all regulatory guidelines and maximizing reimbursement.
Duties & Responsibilities:
* Assign appropriate CPT, ICD-10-CM, and HCPCS codes to diagnoses and procedures for professional and facility services across multiple medical specialties, including but not limited to family medicine, internal medicine, general surgery, and orthopedics.
* Review medical documentation, including physician notes, operative reports, and diagnostic reports, to extract all necessary information for accurate coding.
* Abstract pertinent information from patient records for data entry and statistical reporting.
* Identify and clarify ambiguous or incomplete documentation with physicians and other healthcare providers to ensure coding accuracy and compliance.
* Stay current with coding guidelines, regulations, and industry changes through continuous education and professional development.
* Participate in regular coding audits and provide feedback for process improvement.
* Collaborate with billing and revenue cycle teams to resolve coding-related denials and rejections.
* Maintain patient confidentiality and adhere to all HIPAA regulations.
* Assist in training and mentoring less experienced coders as needed.
Job Qualifications:
* Certified Professional Coder (CPC) or Certified Coding Specialist (CCS) certification required. Additional specialty certifications (e.g., CEMC, CGSC, COSC) preferred.
* Minimum of 3-5 years of multi-specialty coding experience, preferably within a rural healthcare setting.
* Extensive knowledge of CPT, ICD-10-CM, and HCPCS coding systems, as well as medical terminology, anatomy, and physiology.
* Thorough understanding of Medicare, Medicaid, and commercial payer guidelines and regulations.
* Proficiency in electronic health record (EHR) systems and coding software.
* Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with meticulous attention to detail.
* Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to effectively interact with physicians and other healthcare professionals.
* Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
* Commitment to ongoing professional development and staying abreast of coding updates.
