Job Description

SALARY

$20.67 - $25.84Under general supervision, the Code Compliance Technician identifies and removes graffiti and illegal signs; provides educational and ordinance information to property owners regarding graffiti and illegal sign violations; and schedules, delivers, inspects, maintains, and tracks tools for the Tool Sharing Program.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  • Identify, photograph, and remove graffiti using approved methods, safety guidelines, and materials.
  • Determine the best method of graffiti abatement based on circumstances and surface materials.
  • Perform administrative duties including emails, case documentation, graffiti abatement forms, reports, and PowerPoint presentations.
  • Enter and update complaints.
  • Operate gas‑powered and mechanical equipment using solvent/chemical products such as paint and cleaners.
  • Identify, photograph, and remove illegal signage from the public right‑of‑way.
  • Schedule tool deliveries and pickups and confirm reservations with residents.
  • Track tool availability, usage, and maintenance.
  • Prioritize daily activities to ensure tasks are completed efficiently and effectively.
  • Operate City vehicles and trailers to travel to various locations.

OTHER JOB FUNCTIONS:

  • Work and make decisions independently.
  • Inspect, test, and perform preventive maintenance on tools and equipment.
  • Deploy and remove mosquito‑spraying signage as directed.
  • Provide waivers, educational materials, and ordinance information to property owners.
  • Order materials and track expenditures for graffiti removal and equipment maintenance.
  • Answer questions from the public regarding code issues.
  • Conduct nuisance abatements using a variety of methods and tools.
  • Coordinate and facilitate contractor graffiti abatements.
  • Coordinate tasks with other City departments and outside agencies.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:
  • Knowledge of small engine and basic mechanical equipment maintenance.
  • Knowledge of connecting and operating a vehicle with an attached trailer.
  • Skill in making independent decisions regarding graffiti removal best practices.
  • Skill in prioritizing, organizing, and managing multiple projects.
  • Skill in gathering and analyzing information and making recommendations.
  • Ability to work and make decisions independently.
  • Ability to learn state and local codes and ordinances relating to graffiti and illegal signage.
  • Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to interact with citizens to explain graffiti abatement procedures.
  • Ability to maintain accurate and detailed records.
  • Ability to read labels on a variety of containers.
  • Ability to operate a variety of tools and equipment.
  • Ability to perform physical tasks including hearing, speaking, climbing, driving, lifting, seeing, squatting, reaching, and walking.
  • Ability to exercise independent judgment, decisiveness, and creativity.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.
  • Ability to operate specialized graffiti removal equipment.
  • Ability to operate office equipment including MS Office and standard computer applications.
  • Ability to operate a motorized vehicle.
  • Ability to work in indoor and outdoor environments.
  • Ability to work weekends, evenings, and after‑hour calls as needed; assignments may rotate based on procedural or legal requirements.
  • Ability to work in environments with exposure to chemicals, dust, plants, insects, animals, odors, and mold.

Qualifying Education and Experience:

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Hazmat, chemical safety, or chemical handling certification (or department‑approved equivalent) required within 12 months.
  • Valid Texas Driver’s License with a good driving record.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Preferred Education and Experience:
  • One (1) year of customer service experience preferred
