The National Association of State Departments of Agriculture is seeking a new team member who is passionate about American agriculture to join its National Agriculture Statistics Survey (NASS) cooperative agreements team as Associate Director, NASS Program. This position will have the opportunity to travel across the U.S. for meetings and conferences. The candidate will have the opportunity to build relationships and collaborate with leaders from state departments of agriculture across states, government entities, and major agricultural corporations.

ABOUT THE POSITION

The essential functions include but are not limited to:

  • Serve as the liaison with NASS regional teams, facilitate communication and collaboration to ensure alignment with organizational goals and requirements.
  • Coordinate, organize, schedule, and oversee training events for enumerators to ensure consistency and quality across regions
  • Process payroll for all enumerators to ensure accuracy and timeliness in payment
  • Manage staffing for the designated regions, including hiring, performance evaluations, and addressing any personnel issues
  • Oversee the work of up to 400 employees, providing guidance and support to ensure high performance and adherence to organizational policies and standards
  • Develop and implement strategies to improve data collection efficiency and accuracy
  • Monitor and report on the performance of enumerators, coaches, trainers, and managers, identifying areas for improvement and implementing corrective actions as necessary
  • Ensure compliance with NASDA's Anti-Discrimination and Anti-Harassment policies in all employment actions
  • Collaborate with other Associate Directors to share best practices and maintain consistency in operations across all regions
  • Handle administrative tasks related to the management of enumerators, including processing payroll and disciplinary actions
  • Coordinate and collaborate with the NASS Program Directors
  • Maintain positive relationships with the NASDA members to amplify the work of the enumerators

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor's degree preferred
  • Proven experience in a leadership role, preferably in a field operations or survey environment
  • Experience in payroll processing and staff management
  • Knowledge of agricultural practices and NASS surveys is desired
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Exceptional critical thinking skills. Ability to exercise sound judgment and resolve problems
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills. Strong presentations skills
  • Superior interpersonal and relationship-building skills. Demonstrated ability to work effectively across all levels of an organization.
  • High level of independence in day-to-day tasks
  • Self-motivated as well as a team player
  • Demonstrated ability to work well in a fast-paced and deadline-oriented work environment
  • Willing to learn new duties and technology-related skills as required
  • Experience with developing and implementing workshops, conferences, and off-site educational experiences

SALARY - $85,000.00

WORK SCHEDULE

This is a full-time, exempt remote position. Candidate must live in the Northern Plains or Upper Midwest states of Nebraska, Kansas, North Dakota, South Dakota, Iowa, Minnesota, and Wisconsin.
