Job Summary

The Pirates are searching for a collaborative leader to join our organization as a coordinator of Mental Performance. The role will involve overseeing the upper levels of our minor league system—specifically 2A (Altoona, PA) and 3A (Indianapolis, IN).

You will join the Pirates organization as a Mental Performance Coach (MPC)—working alongside other MPC’s to ensure complete coverage of the minor league system. You will be tasked with providing formal, and informal, implementation of applied sport psychology and leadership development for our players and staff.

Responsibilities

  1. Provide empirical education regarding the science of performance psychology to players and staff
  2. Engage in individual and group sessions throughout the season
  3. Be able to differentiate between mental performance issues and mental health issues—and refer out to licensed professionals when the latter is identified.
  4. Collaborate with the mental performance team to ensure coverage of players as they transition throughout different affiliates during the minor league season.

Qualifications

Required:

  1. Authorized to work lawfully in the United States.
  2. Master’s degree in sport/exercise psychology or related field.
  3. Certified Mental Performance Consultant (CMPC) through the Association of Applied Sport Psychology (AASP).
  4. Capacity to lead individual and group sessions regarding the implementation of mental skills that can include, but are not limited to, goal setting, mindfulness, visualization, emotion management, arousal control, etc.
  5. Strong coaching, facilitation, communication, and relationship-building skills, with the ability to earn trust and influence players and staff throughout the organization.
  6. Willingness and capacity to travel.
  7. Full coverage in Bradenton, Florida during Spring Training.
  8. Full coverage in Bradenton, Florida during Fall Instructional League.
  9. Monthly visits to 2A and 3A (home or away depending on scheduling) during the minor league baseball season.
  10. Must be available to work evenings, weekends, or other non-traditional hours based on the baseball calendar, travel, and departmental needs.

Desired:

  1. Capacity to use multiple technologies.
  2. Willingness to learn other languages. (Spanish)
