Job Description

Metrolinx is connecting communities across the Greater Golden Horseshoe. Metrolinx operates GO Transit and UP Express, as well as the PRESTO fare payment system. We are also building new and improved rapid transit, including GO Expansion, Light Rail Transit routes, and major expansions to Toronto’s subway system, to get people where they need to go, better, faster and easier. Our Payments (PRESTO) Payments Fraud Risk Management (FRM) office is seeking a Student to join our Fraud Analytics team! You will assist with fraud detection, monitoring, and reporting support to PRESTO. You will use fraud detection tools/processes to provide routine monitoring and analysis.

What will I be doing?

  • Mine and analyze data to develop new models (e.g., predictive modeling) to monitor key risk indicators and to measure the effectiveness of existing fraud detection controls
  • Utilize databases, analytical software and tools to conduct routine reviews to identify new and emerging fraud trends in order to inform the appropriate PRESTO business and product owner(s) for corrective actions.
  • Prepare fraud incident reports and maintain fraud event repository.
  • Conduct reviews of key risk indicators specific to e-commerce merchants.
  • Work with other Metrolinx departments and third parties to support fraud investigations and support the deployment of the respective fraud risk mitigation strategies (as needed).
  • Support in developing material for various leadership forums along with other key internal reporting (e.g., FRM program updates, KPI’s)
  • Support core KPI dashboards tied to the FRM program, along with ad-hoc data analysis and data visualization support
  • Automation of internal processes to ensure operational efficiencies, in alignment with LEAN practices.
  • Supporting the QA testing of FRM controls and processes on an ongoing basis as needed.

What Skills and Qualifications Do I Need?

  • Knowledge and experience in SQL and Power BI is mandatory
  • Must be enrolled in Computer Science, Mathematics, Statistics, Business, Finance or similar program at a post-secondary institution or enrolled in a full-time accredited co-op program in order to be considered for this position.
  • Must be attending school full-time and returning to an academic institution.
  • Must be at least 15 years of age before starting employment.
  • Ability to gather, analyze, document and present large volumes of information in a succinct and organized manner.
  • Critical thinker with excellent analytical and problem-solving skills; along with a high level of attention to detail
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Strong organizational and multi-tasking skills, with the ability to meet deadlines with minimum supervision.
  • Experience with MS Office Suite (Excel, PowerPoint, Teams, Word, Access, Outlook, etc.).
  • Knowledge of risk management, fraud risk management, advanced data analytics and compliance would be considered an asset.
