The City of Victoria is hiring a Co‑op Student to support stormwater and drainage initiatives across the community. In this role, you’ll work in the Stormwater subset of our Underground Utilities team on projects that help monitor and improve how rainwater moves through the City. You’ll support field investigations, data collection programs, and initiatives focused on reducing flooding risk and improving water quality.

This is a mix of field and office-based work, with opportunities to get out to inspect City stormwater infrastructure, assist with design initiatives, and contribute to projects focused on green stormwater infrastructure and climate resilience. It’s ideal for someone with an interest in urban watershed environments who enjoys practical, team-based work and wants to see how engineering solutions are applied in a real municipal environment.

Auxiliary status employees will be paid an additional 15% in lieu of vacation, holiday, sick leave beyond the statutory requirement, and other benefits, per the CUPE Local 50 Collective Agreement.

POSITION FUNCTION

As a student hired under the Co-operative Educational Training Program, you will be given meaningful and challenging assignments while being introduced to a career in municipal government. In this Co-op position you will assist with supernumerary projects and contribute to the overall goals of the work unit.

KEY DUTIES

Under the direct guidance and observation of the supervisor, assist with the on-going enhancement of the City’s operations by utilizing existing tools and software platforms.

Participate in the development and improvement of future-focussed projects that align with the department’s strategic goals and objectives by providing supernumerary field or office support.

Conduct and document research, analyze and interpret data, prepare summary of findings, draft reports, procedures and/or practices, and present to supervisor for feedback and/or next steps.

Assist with identifying and testing new and/or enhanced tools and processes and collaborate to ensure ‘shared learning’.

INDEPENDENCE

Work is assigned by supervisor and reviewed upon completion.

Problems are referred to supervisor.

QUALIFICATIONS

Formal Education, Training and Occupational Certification:

High School.

Enrolled in a recognized Co-operative Education Program at a Canadian Post-Secondary Institution.

Currently attending full-time education and returning to full-time studies in the subsequent academic year.

In good standing in an Undergraduate Degree Program or Technical School Diploma Program.

Experience:

Not required.
