About the Position

We are currently seeking a Co-op Student to join our Protein Engineering team. The successful candidate will support experimental studies and tasks related to the purification and characterization of recombinant proteins, critically evaluate results, and contribute to the team effort to create best-in-class therapeutics. 

This role will be located in Vancouver, BC and is full-time onsite. The hourly wage for this co-op position is $21.00 CAD. 

What You'll Do

• Assistwith the purification of recombinant proteins using a variety of chromatography techniques including affinity and size-exclusion. 
• Assistwith the characterization of recombinant proteins using a variety of techniques including SDS-PAGE, CE-SDS,UV-VIS spectrophotometry,and UPLC-SEC. 
• Prepare media,buffers,and reagents. 
• Maintainaccuraterecords of methods and raw data. 
• Evaluate data and summarize results for presentations. 
• Conduct all activitiesin accordance withscientific standards, OS&H regulations and establishedZymeworks’ policies and practices. 
• Adhere toZymeworks’ standard procedures for generating,documentingand archiving data, andmaintainingan up-to-date electronic laboratory notebook. 
• Contribute to the routine maintenance of the laboratory.

What You'll Bring

• Currently enrolled in an undergraduate program in Biochemistry, Immunology, Biology, or related discipline.
• Available for a co-op term of at least 8-months. Successful completion of at least one relevant co-op term is preferred.
• Proven interpersonal skills with the ability to work collaboratively as a member of a cross-functional team and maintain effective working relationships. 
• Highly organized with good attention to detail. 
• Experience with protein purification and biophysical characterization methods is an asset.
• Knowledge of protein structure is an asset.  
• Excellent oral and written communication skills, both one-on-one and in a group setting. 
• Results-oriented. 
• Good computer skills.
