Blue Bird’s Engineering Co-op students will assist in the development and analysis of products, materials, processes or equipment.  The students will engage in a variety of work experiences applying their theoretical knowledge to real world business challenges.  Kettering Engineering Co-op students will support one or more experienced engineers completing moderately complex tasks in a production and/or product design engineering environment. 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Under the supervision of an experienced engineer, perform analysis on existing products; assist in the design and development of future products; perform analysis on both completed and future launches; and conduct quality assurance on system safety, launch and production operations
  • Undertakes and successfully completes simple or basic project/product development tasks to include any of the following: writing and/or verifying specifications, maintaining product/process documentation, testing processes, equipment, raw materials and product, and validating equipment and processes
  • May assist in creating concepts and designs or approaches for products, processes or test methods
  • Designs, procures, and fabricates simple tooling and fixtures
  • Designs and coordinates engineering tests and experiments
  • Prepares standard reports/documentation to communicate results to technical community.
  • Completes basic tasks on engineering documentation
  • Assists with design and prototype activities including CAD, manufacturing assembly, testing, debugging and documentation
  • Assists with training technicians/operators on new processes and/or test procedures
  • Identifies areas for improvement, suggests solutions and submits idea records
  • Complete basic engineering tasks related to product design, analysis, testing, integration and systems engineering
  • Engage in meaningful projects and/or studies that promote continuous improvement and operational efficiency
  • Document outcomes of key projects in order for work to be continued seamlessly by the next term's rotating Co-op student

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES FOR SUCCESS

  • Able to work full-time (40 hours/week) during work term
  • Strong interest in automotive engineering
  • Familiarity with CAD software, preferred; CATIA preferred
  • Ability to create and/or update drawings in AutoCAD, preferred
  • Ability to work semi-autonomously with appropriate guidance and direction
  • At least 18 years of age prior to the start of the Co-op assignment
  • Must possess a valid United States’ driver’s license
  • Must have excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Must be a team player and able to get along with individuals from other groups in the organization
  • Must be motivated and eager to learn industry concepts

BASIC EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED

  • Undergraduate or graduate level student currently pursuing a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or Manufacturing Engineering
  • Must be in good academic standing, with a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0
  • All candidates must be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident. Candidates must be authorized to work in the United States and will be required to provide proof of employment eligibility at the time of hire.
