Job Description

Our Marine organization is a trusted provider of innovative solutions for the worldwide boating and boat building industry, and we recently expanded our scope to lead the boating industry into an electrified future. Dometic has won numerous NMMA Innovation Awards over the years, and we are always striving for new ways to make boating easier, safer, and more enjoyable.

We are on a journey of continuous growth – now looking for our next star – a passionate Co-op Product Designer - Mechatronics. This position reports to Product Designer - Mechatronics and will work in Vancouver, B.C.

**Please note that this position is open to current students enrolled in a Canadian accredited university and co-op program.

Vancouver:

Dometic Marine’s headquarters are in Vancouver, British Columbia in Canada. The facility develops and manufactures hydraulic, electronic, and combustion-based products.

As Co-op Product Designer - Mechatronics on the Vancouver team, you will be involved in a wide variety of tasks supporting administrative, engineering, and technical staff throughout the facility.

The Co-op Product Designer - Mechatronics will help develop simulation and analysis tools for evaluating and improving vessel stabilization systems, including the Dometic DG3 and next-generation designs. In this multidisciplinary role, focused on mechatronic modelling and software, you'll learn to turn physical system behaviour into working simulation models and validate them with real test data. We're looking for strong physics fundamentals first. Beyond basic programming, software development experience is an asset, and you'll have the opportunity to build it on the job.

General Responsibilities

  • Help develop modular simulation frameworks for sea state modelling, vessel dynamics, stabilization controls, system loads, and performance evaluation.
  • Develop and validate physics-based models of dynamic and electromechanical systems, including taking part in field testing to collect data.
  • Run simulation scenarios and parameter studies, analyze the results alongside test data, and report on performance and opportunities for improvement.
  • Build automated tests for models and control software and keep all work version-controlled and documented.
  • Proactively engage with controls, mechanical, electrical, software, and test teams to gather input and share results.

Here is what our previous students have told us as to why they liked their co-op terms:

  • Hands-on prototyping and system testing, including real-world on-water trials.
  • Design experience in test automation and software development.
  • A wide variety of work, usually 2–3 projects at a time.
  • Great mentorship and supportive staff, with room to work independently.
  • Strong camaraderie among co-op students and engineers.
  • A mix of software, electrical, and mechanical work across product development and manufacturing, all in one facility.

What do we offer?

You are offered an interesting role in a dynamic, fast paced and global environment with great opportunities to grow, evolve with the company and take on new challenges.

  • Statutory Holidays
  • Free on-site parking
  • Company events
  • Opportunities to make an impact

Skills & Requirements

Required

  • Currently enrolled in an engineering program such as Mechanical, Mechatronics, Electrical, Computer, Software, or Engineering Physics.
  • Strong fundamentals in physics and math, with the ability to apply them to real engineering systems.
  • Programming experience with Python, MATLAB/Simulink, or similar tools, including basic data analysis and visualization.
  • Strong communication skills and the initiative to start conversations with people across disciplines and teams.
  • Good problem-solving skills and eagerness to learn new tools and methods.

Assets

  • Deeper knowledge of physical systems, including mechanics, dynamics, and vibrations, plus some familiarity with motors and electrical systems.
  • Hands-on experience from labs, design teams, or personal projects, especially applying controls or signal processing.
  • Exposure to system identification, parameter estimation, or model validation.
  • Software development experience, including practices such as source control (e.g., Git), automated testing, and modular design.
