Job Description

Strand Therapeutics is a clinical stage biotechnology company utilizing synthetic biology to genetically program mRNA to deliver truly revolutionary immunotherapies to patients.

Building on the idea of creating smart therapies based on Boolean logic circuits, Strand was started by biological engineers working together at MIT who were seeking to apply the concept of the emerging field of mRNA therapeutics. Strand's technology is therapeutic-area and mRNA modality agnostic where therapeutic proteins are encoded onto modified, self-replicating, or circular mRNA backbones which in turn are programmed with cell-specific sensors and circuits.

Today, Strand has established three platforms with one clinical stage asset and several programs in preclinical development as well as early discovery. Our lead program, STX-001, is currently being evaluated in a phase 1 clinical trial for solid tumors. Our corporate headquarters is located in the Fenway district of Boston, Massachusetts.

Become the next standout single strand!

Strand is looking for people who have the enthusiasm and motivation to be a highly contributing member of a small but extremely productive team. This opportunity will offer the employee the ability to work in a matrix-based environment and be a part of the future strategy of the company.

We are looking for a highly motivated and innovative candidate for the role of Co-op, In Vivo Pharmacology – Cell Therapies. This is a fantastic opportunity to make a significant impact as a scientifically motivated self-starter capable of independently conceiving, conducting, and critically analyzing their own work with minimal supervision.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Independently design and execute immunology-focused cell culture studies and functional assays to support discovery and translational research programs.
  • Perform and optimize LNP-mediated and electroporation-based transfection methods in immune cell systems to enable experimental and platform objectives.
  • Conduct, analyze, and interpret multicolor flow cytometry assays using 10 to 14 color panels for immune profiling and functional characterization.
  • Handle, process, and analyze BSL-2 biological materials, including human and non-human primate specimens, in compliance with institutional biosafety and operational standards.
  • Maintain thorough documentation of experimental rationale, study execution, and results through electronic laboratory notebooks and scientific presentations.
  • Partner effectively with cross-functional teams to advance research priorities in a fast-paced, collaborative scientific environment.

Qualifications:

  • On track to graduate with a BS or MS in Biology, Biochemistry, Bioengineering, or a related discipline.
  • 1-3 years of research experience in a biotechnology, pharmaceutical, and/or academic environment is preferred.
  • Proven hands-on experience in mammalian cell culture and immune cell-based experimental techniques, including LNP-mediated transfection, electroporation and multicolor flow cytometric analysis.
  • Experience handling and processing BSL-2 biological materials, including human and non-human primate blood or tissue samples, in compliance with institutional biosafety standards.
  • Experience with leukopak processing, primary T-cell isolation, and related immune cell preparation workflows is preferred.
  • Ability to write, edit, and follow standard operating procedures, make careful observations, and maintain clear and complete records of lab work.

About Strand Therapeutics

Strand was founded by biological engineers working together at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). Building on the idea of creating smart therapies capable of making sophisticated decisions, they sought to apply this concept to the emerging field of mRNA therapeutics. This area was previously untapped by traditional synthetic biology, leading us to build our very own mRNA programming language, creating the world’s first platform for mRNA smart therapies.

Strand’s mRNA programming technology promises to make mRNA therapies safer and more effective by programming the location, timing, and intensity of therapeutic protein expression inside a patient’s body via mRNA-encoded logic circuits. These circuits have the ability to implement cell-type specific expressions by sensing and classifying the unique mRNA expression signatures of cells and control the dosage of protein expression through responses to exogenously administered small molecules.
