Job Description

The Opportunity – Finance Assistant

Post location: oPt Country Office – Ramallah

Contract Duration and Level of Effort: until end of December 2026

ROLE PURPOSE:

The post holder will contribute to the regular processing of the accounting of the Country Office and ensure all the appropriate posting and reconciliation done in time for the month end closure and review by the Finance Leadership. Will ensure the compliance to Save the Children procedure and accounting policy.

In the event of a major humanitarian emergency, the role holder will be expected to work outside the normal role profile and be able to vary working hours accordingly.

Reports to: CO Finance Officer.

Budget Responsibilities: None

KEY AREAS OF ACCOUNTABILITY:

Payment, Posting and Archiving

  • Assist in reviewing and record payments for the Country Office (consultancy, audit, etc.).
  • Assist in writing checks and prepare bank transfer letters; ensure they are signed.
  • Ensure all required supporting document are properly prepared, stamped, signed and archived.
  • Support in reviewing and record staff payments for travel and expenses.
  • Distribute checks to suppliers, consultants, and contractors.
  • Enter journal vouchers into the Agresso system.
  • Record payment vouchers and cash received in the bank tracking sheet.
  • Handle transfer letters to banks and obtain monthly bank statements.
  • Assist in managing cash flow.

Month End Processing

  • Prepare and record internal cash transfers.
  • Assist in end-month bank reconciliation.

Year End and Audit

  • Assist with physical asset counts and the preparation of documents for year-end closeout.
  • Review finance files for audit readiness.
  • Support annual audit work and award-specific audits.
  • Scan all documents for audit purposes.

Staff Development and Training

  • Provide technical assistance, training, orientation, and support to new staff on finance procedure for payment and claims.
  • Do orientation sessions and training to finance and non-finance staff on Agresso and the coding systems.

In order to be successful you will bring/have:

QUALIFICATIONS

BA degree in Accounting, Finance or equivalent field.

EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS

Essential:

  • At least two-years’ experience within the finance department of a national or international organization.
  • Strong experience of accounting and bookkeeping procedures.
  • Excellent analytical skills – the ability to analyse complex financial data, and design. and produce effective management information.
  • Maintaining confidentiality, documentation & filing skills.
  • Good Command of spoken and written English and Arabic.
  • Understanding of financial systems and procedures.
  • Familiarity with computerised accounting systems.
  • Experience of computerised accounts packages, Excel, PowerPoint and Word.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Organizational and time-management skills
  • Attention to detail, with an ability to spot numerical errors
  • Ability to manage a complex and diverse workload and work to meet tight deadlines.
  • Ability to contribute to a small, proactive team, motivating staff and working collaboratively with colleagues, and providing support and advice as necessary.
  • A full appreciation of the value of co-operation, both internationally and within a team environment.
  • Understanding of Save the Children’s vision and mission and a commitment to its objectives.

Desirable

  • Ability and willingness to change work practices and hours in the event of major emergencies, including travelling at short notice and for extended periods.
  • Knowledge of donor financial policies and guidelines.
  • Ability to work virtually due to emergency.
