CNG Service Technician II

Base Wage Range: $35.00 – $47.00 per hour, based on experience

Position Overview

A leading alternative-fuels energy company is hiring an experienced CNG Service Technician II to operate, maintain and repair compressed natural gas (CNG) fueling stations across Long Island, NY. This field-based role carries more technical responsibility. You will handle complex diagnostics, independent repairs and support for less experienced technicians, so the fueling equipment runs safely and reliably.

Key Responsibilities

• Perform preventive, corrective and advanced maintenance on CNG fueling systems, including compressors, engines/motors, dryers, valves, dispensers, controls and other electrical and mechanical equipment.
• Independently troubleshoot and repair complex electrical, mechanical, pneumatic and control-system faults.
• Conduct scheduled inspections, safety checks and compliance activities to meet regulatory and company standards.
• Interpret schematics, wiring diagrams, P&IDs and manufacturer manuals to diagnose and resolve issues.
• Record service activities, diagnostics, parts usage and repairs accurately using mobile and digital reporting tools.
• Mentor and support Service Technician I team members, sharing technical knowledge and safe work practices.
• Follow safety protocols, including lockout/tagout, permits and hazard assessments, and support environmental best practices.
• Respond to emergency service calls and take part in a rotating on-call schedule outside regular hours.
• Give customers and internal teams clear service updates, root-cause findings and recommendations.
• Travel between fueling sites throughout the assigned Long Island territory.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent; technical or vocational training preferred.
• 3–5+ years of experience in technical maintenance, field service, or mechanical, electrical, HVAC or industrial equipment repair.
• CNG, natural gas compression or fueling-station experience strongly preferred.
• Strong troubleshooting skills on electrical and mechanical systems, including PLCs, motor controls and compressors.
• Comfortable with diagnostic equipment, digital service tools and Microsoft Office applications.
• Valid driver's license and a satisfactory driving record.
• Working knowledge of natural gas safety guidelines and industry codes.
• Ability to lift and move equipment within safety requirements.
• Professional communication skills with customers and team members.
• Proven reliability, problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
• Willingness to work on-call and overtime as needed.
