Job Description

POSITION SUMMARY

The CNC Swiss Machinist III independently operates CNC Swiss machines, ensures quality compliance, and contributes to consistent production output. This role demonstrates solid understanding of medical quality requirements and problem-solving at the machine level.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Safety & 6S Leadership

  • Consistently demonstrate safe work practices and proper machine operation.
  • Follow all company safety policies, PPE requirements, and machine-specific safety procedures.
  • Clean out all bar feed remnants 20 minutes before the end of the shift
  • Ensure all tools, measuring equipment, etc. is placed back in its proper shadow or cutout.
  • Lead by example in maintaining 6S standards at the workstation.
  • Identify and correct unsafe conditions within scope of responsibility.
  • Participate in root cause investigations related to safety or housekeeping issues.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives related to safety and workflow.
  • Escalate any safety concerns that cannot be resolved within 9 minutes to appropriate leadership.

Quality Assurance & Compliance

  • Perform in-process and final inspections using precision measuring tools (micrometers, bore gages, optical comparators).
  • Perform SPC inspections and record data in QC gauge at the required interval.
  • Understand GD&T basics and critical-to-quality (CTQ) features.
  • Complete all required quality documentation accurately and legibly.
  • Support audits and inspections by providing clear and compliant records.
  • Monitor QC gauge data for trends and proactively address tool life and potential nonconformances.
  • Escalate any quality issues that cannot be resolved within 9 minutes to Quality and Management.

Production Execution & On-Time Delivery

  • Adjust tool offsets to maintain part quality and efficiency.
  • Read router instructions to understand all operating instructions including cycle time and hour by hour production requirements.
  • Troubleshoot common machining issues (tool wear, chip control, minor dimensional drift).
  • Maintain production efficiency while minimizing scrap and rework.
  • Communicate effectively with leads, engineers, and quality personnel.
  • Attend and participate in all company and department meetings.

Team Development

  • Complete thorough shift handoffs to oncoming operators to ensure continuity of operations.
  • Maintain training binder
  • Ensure sign off of appropriate training for each task mastered (not just shown)
  • Keep all training documents and supplemental handouts appropriate for reference (i.e. GDT handouts, decimal charts, etc.)
  • Complete ToolingU classes as assigned.

Requirements

QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • 5-7 years of manufacturing or machining experience preferred.
  • Experience working with Citizen or other CNC Swiss machines.
  • Experience with Esprit or similar CNC programming software is a plus.
  • Familiarity with manufacturing scheduling and shop control planning system such as EPICOR is a plus.
  • Basic math skills (fractions, decimals).
  • Ability to read simple blueprints and follow written instructions.
  • Willingness to learn medical manufacturing standards and procedures.

WORKING CONDITIONS

  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
  • Manufacturing shop environment.
  • Exposure to noise, coolants, and oils consistent with machine shop operations.
