As a CNC Swiss Engineering Lead, you will serve as a technical leader and subject matter expert in Swiss-style CNC machining applications. This position is responsible for developing and implementing innovative machining solutions, leading complex turnkey projects, supporting pre-sale activities, and providing technical guidance to customers and internal teams.

The CNC Swiss Engineering Lead will utilize advanced knowledge of CNC programming, machining processes, tooling, automation, and machine capabilities to evaluate customer applications and develop efficient, cost-effective solutions. This role will work extensively with Tsugami Swiss-style machine tools and will provide technical leadership throughout the sales, application, implementation, and customer support processes.

What You Will Contribute:
  • Serve as a technical leader and subject matter expert for CNC Swiss machining applications, providing guidance and support to Applications Engineers, Sales, Service, and customers.

  • Lead complex turnkey projects, demonstrations, and other customer-related engineering projects, ensuring projects are completed accurately, on time, and within budget.

  • Conduct pre-sale activities and technical reviews, including customer visits, opportunity evaluations, machine assessments, part-processing recommendations, cycle-time estimates, feasibility studies, and development of turnkey proposals.

  • Analyze customer parts, prints, processes, and production requirements to recommend appropriate machine configurations, tooling, work holding, programming strategies, and process improvements.

  • Develop and implement custom machining demonstrations and proof-of-concept applications to validate proposed solutions and demonstrate machine capabilities.

  • Develop, optimize, and troubleshoot CNC programs and machining processes for Swiss-style CNC machine tools.

  • Provide technical leadership in the development and implementation of turnkey machining solutions, including tooling, work holding, automation, and process optimization when applicable.

  • Conduct customer training in the safe setup, programming, operation, and troubleshooting of CNC Swiss-style machine tools and related equipment.

  • Provide on-site engineering assistance, process support, troubleshooting, and training at customer facilities as required.

  • Support Applications Engineers with complex applications, technical troubleshooting, project planning, and process development.

  • Share technical knowledge and best practices with the Applications Engineering team to promote consistency, efficiency, and continuous improvement.

  • Prepare accurate cost estimates, engineering reports, cycle-time analyses, and other technical documentation.

  • Interpret engineering drawings, specifications, GD&T, and customer manufacturing requirements to develop appropriate machining solutions.

  • Collaborate with Sales and other internal teams to evaluate opportunities, develop technical recommendations, and ensure proposed solutions align with customer requirements.

  • Stay current on Swiss machining technology, tooling, controls, programming techniques, and industry trends to maintain a high level of technical expertise.

Qualifications and Competencies:
  • Significant experience in Sliding Headstock (Swiss) CNC machine tool engineering, programming, applications, and/or manufacturing.

  • Demonstrated expertise in CNC Swiss machining processes, tooling, work holding, and process optimization.

  • In-depth knowledge of machine tool technology and the product lines represented by the company, with the ability to quickly learn and apply new technologies.

  • Strong understanding of CNC lathe processes and tooling applications.

  • Advanced knowledge of CNC programming and Fanuc-based controls; 5-axis machining experience strongly preferred.

  • Experience developing and optimizing machining processes, including cycle-time reduction and productivity improvements.

  • Experience with CAD/CAM software preferred.

  • Demonstrated ability to lead complex technical projects from initial evaluation through implementation and customer acceptance.

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to evaluate complex applications, identify potential issues, and develop effective solutions.

  • Ability to communicate complex technical information clearly and effectively to customers, Sales, Applications Engineering, Service, and other internal stakeholders.

  • Ability to provide technical guidance, coaching, and support to less experienced Applications Engineers.

  • Strong customer-service orientation with the ability to establish and maintain effective professional relationships.

  • Ability to work independently, manage multiple priorities, and make sound technical decisions in a fast-paced environment.

  • Ability to travel regularly to customer locations for demonstrations, training, engineering support, and project implementation.

  • Ability to work in industrial environments, with exposure to noise, lubricants, coolants, metal chips, and other manufacturing conditions, while consistently wearing required personal protective equipment (PPE).
