CNC Manufacturing Engineer – CNC Milling

Position Overview

We are seeking an experienced CNC Manufacturing Engineer to join a growing manufacturing operation in the Middlebury, Indiana area. This position is hands-on and will be responsible for programming, setting up, troubleshooting, and operating CNC milling equipment, with a strong focus on Haas CNC machines.

The ideal candidate has a solid machining background and understands how to take a part from print to finished product. This is a great opportunity for someone who enjoys being on the shop floor, solving manufacturing challenges, and improving CNC processes.

Key Responsibilities

• Program, set up, and operate Haas CNC vertical milling machines
• Develop and modify CNC programs using G-code and/or CAM software
• Read and interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, and GD&T
• Select appropriate tooling, workholding, feeds, and speeds
• Set tool offsets, work offsets, and machine parameters
• Perform first-piece inspections and in-process quality checks
• Troubleshoot machining issues and make program/tooling adjustments
• Optimize machining processes for quality, cycle time, and efficiency
• Assist with new part launches and process development
• Work closely with production, quality, and engineering teams
• Identify opportunities for continuous improvement and waste reduction
• Maintain a safe, clean, and organized work environment

Qualifications

• Experience programming, setting up, and operating CNC mills
• Experience with Haas CNC equipment strongly preferred
• Strong understanding of CNC machining processes
• Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and GD&T
• Proficiency with G-code and CNC programming
• Experience with CNC tooling, workholding, feeds, speeds, and offsets
• Ability to use precision measuring equipment such as calipers, micrometers, and gauges
• CNC machining or manufacturing engineering experience
• Strong mechanical and troubleshooting skills
• Ability to work independently while also collaborating with a production team

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with CAM software
• Experience with multi-axis CNC machining
• Experience with process improvement or lean manufacturing
• Experience developing processes for new parts
• Experience with inspection equipment and quality systems
• Technical degree or equivalent machining/manufacturing experience
