Job Description

GE Vernova Bangor manufacturing facility is seeking an experienced CNC Machinist Trainer to lead and deliver our internal Machinist Internship Program. This is a hands-on, shop-floor instructional role — ideal for a seasoned machinist or CNC specialist who is passionate about passing their craft to the next generation of manufacturing talent.

If you've spent years mastering CNC machining, programming, and precision manufacturing — and you have a knack for teaching others how to do it right — this role was built for you.

What You'll Do

Program Instruction & Delivery

  • Serve as the primary instructor for the Machinist Internship Program, delivering daily shop-floor and classroom-based training to interns and early-career machinists
  • Demonstrate and teach CNC machine operation, setup, and programming including G-Code, Macro Programming, and adaptive machining techniques using tool and part probing
  • Guide trainees through precision measurement practices, standard metrology, print reading, and Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing (GD&T)

Curriculum & Training Material Development

  • Develop, maintain, and continuously improve structured training modules, work instructions, and learning progressions aligned with operational standards and apprenticeship milestones
  • Build assessment tools and progress checkpoints to ensure interns develop competency at each stage of the program

Mentorship & On-the-Job Training

  • Partner directly with operators, supervisors, and engineering teams to integrate real production scenarios into training activities
  • Provide one-on-one coaching and mentorship to interns, identifying skill gaps early and adjusting instruction accordingly

Performance Tracking & Reporting

  • Maintain accurate records of intern development, milestone completion, and training outcomes
  • Report program progress to operations leadership and recommend adjustments to improve throughput and quality of graduates

Safety, Quality & Continuous Improvement

  • Model and reinforce GE Vernova's Safety, Quality, Delivery, and Cost (SQDC) standards in every training interaction
  • Actively identify opportunities to improve training processes, tooling demos, and program structure based on feedback and outcomes

Technology & Innovation

  • Support the evaluation and integration of virtual reality training tools, simulation platforms, and digital learning resources as supplements to hands-on instruction

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelors degree or Associate degree in related field
  • Minimum 5 years of hands-on CNC machining experience, including setup, operation, and programming
  • Demonstrated experience teaching, training, or mentoring others in a manufacturing, machining, or skilled trades environment
  • Working knowledge of CNC controls, G-Code programming, and Macro Programming
  • Familiarity with adaptive machining techniques including tool and part probing
  • Understanding of precision metrology practices and GD&T

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience managing or coordinating a formal apprenticeship, internship, or workforce development program
  • Background as a journeyman machinist, master machinist, or trade instructor
  • Familiarity with VR training tools, simulation labs, or digital learning platforms
  • Experience in a high-mix, low-volume or aerospace/energy manufacturing environment
  • Strong organizational skills with experience maintaining training documentation, SOPs, or work instructions
  • Experience in setup & operation of turning, mill-turn, 5th-axis, horizontal milling, and VTL machines.
  • Experience with CMM inspection
