CNC Machinist II

Position Details:
Primary Function:
The CNC Machinist II is responsible for independently setting up and operating 5-axis and 3-axis CNC machines, lathe, or other machinery according to blueprint specifications. This role requires minimal supervision and includes mentoring entry-level machinists.
Essential Job Functions - Responsibilities:
Independently set up and operate CNC machines with minimal supervision
Own full setups and take responsibility for quality outcomes
Interpret complex blueprints and basic GD&T symbols and their application
Make minor G&M code edits (offsets, tooling, macros) as needed
Select appropriate settings and make adjustments as necessary
Make mechanical and/or minor program (speed or feed) adjustments to ensure parts meet quality requirements
Use precision measuring instruments to accurately measure dimensions within print tolerance
Identify and resolve common machining issues independently
Follow established quality standards and suggest improvements to processes
Mentor entry-level machinists and provide guidance
Communicate setup and troubleshooting information effectively
Communicate recommendations to modify processes to improve productivity and quality
Work collaboratively with team members across different experience levels
Follow all safe work practices and safety rules
Follow Business Technology policies to protect sensitive data
Carry out other duties as required by the Director of Machining & Fabrication
Education and Experience: (Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities)
Associates Degree, Technical certificate, or equivalent required
Minimum of 3-5 years of relevant work experience preferred
Strong written and verbal English language communication skills
Understanding of GD&T symbols and their application
Experience with CNC machine setup and operation
Ability to read complex blueprints and make minor code modifications
Excellent teamwork/interpersonal skills and mentoring ability
Demonstrate commitment and adherence to Sigma Design Core Values
Pass a post-offer background verification
Work Environment:
Standard machine shop environment with various types of machinery. Appropriate safety garments (PPE) must be worn. Must be able to lift or move heavy objects up to 40lbs and must be able to stand and work as long as 12 hours in different positions.
