ASRC Federal Advanced Research is seeking a full-time CNC Machinist in Warren, MI.

We are seeking a highly motivated candidate to provide technical services in the area of Computer Numerical Control (CNC) machining. These technicians shall support in assisting the United States Government / Military in the design and development of equipment for military, commercial, construction and prototype vehicle platforms.

Responsibilities:
• The contractor shall operate the following machines:
◦ CNC 3, 4, 5 –axis machining
◦ CNC lathes and mills turn mils and grinders
◦ Manual operation of Drill presses, lathes, mills, grinders and other typical support shop equipment.
• The CNC Machinist shall read and interpret drawings and sketches in accordance with the Fabrication Schedule and shall be capable of planning and laying out of work, fabricating parts to print, determining work procedures, selection of machines, sequence of machining operations, programming speeds and feeds, determining tooling requirements, equipment, and attachments (jigs and fixtures) for ferrous and non-ferrous materials.
• The contractor shall have experience with Master Cam (CAM) (Modules: Mill level 3, lathe, multi-axis, solids, 2d/3d advanced tool paths), G &M Programming, Haas or similar machines.
• The CNC Machinist shall utilize quality control measuring techniques to verify the part to meet print requirements and use Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T), Statistical Process Control (SPC) and lean manufacturing techniques in maintaining quality during the production process.
• The CNC Machinist shall operate multiple machines and monitor their displays, manually enter commands, adjust machine controls to correct malfunctions, and follow SPC guidelines.
• The CNC Machinist shall perform routine maintenance and troubleshoot problems on machines in order maintain peak performance.
• The CNC Machinist shall create drawings, sketches and tool paths of part profiles from provided drawings or be capable of downloading, translating and manipulating of files provided in a .dxf format for the machine to read. The CNC Machinist shall program machines to cut quantities as required of ferrous and nonferrous materials. The components shall be checked for dimensional accuracy and tolerance against the drawing and any discrepancies shall be corrected.

Experience with the following is considered a plus:
• Applicants with experience on water jet / laser machining, mill and/or lathe will be considered before all other applicants.
• Knowledge of Government (DoD, US Army, TACOM) policies and procedures/ nomenclature, work methods, manuals, and other established guidelines.
• The CNC Machinist shall provide technical services in the area of water jet cutting including setup, programing, and maintenance of water jet cutting machines manufactured by OMAX, and Flow. The contractor shall use OMAX (static head, tilted-jet and a-jet) and Flow (dynamic, hyper-jet) machines.
• The CNC Machinist shall have basic knowledge of maintenance of water filtration systems for the water jet cutting machines and be able to follow instructions prompted by machine controller in changing: filters, cutting substrates, cutting tips and maintaining peak performance of the machine.
Education:
• A minimum of a high school diploma or equivalent, certificate from a 2-year technical school or completion of an apprenticeship program leading to a Journeyman status with certification to proficiently operate the machinery mentioned above.
• If applicant has not completed an apprenticeship program but possess certificates proving extra training in Master Cam Software or related machining courses, this will be acceptable.
Requirements:
• Minimum of 2-5 years of related experience or equivalent training and certification.
• Highly organized, attention to detail, ability to multi-task, and respond quickly to short deadline actions in a fast-paced environment.
• Excellent communication (verbal and written) and follow up skills are critical.
• Ability to work independently as well as in a team environment.
• Ability to pass a US Government background check.
