The Machinist is responsible for setting up and operating a range of machine tools to manufacture high-precision parts and components. The role involves fabricating, modifying, and repairing mechanical parts, tools, and equipment, as well as maintaining industrial machinery as required. The position requires a strong understanding of mechanical principles, workshop mathematics, material properties, technical drawings, and machining processes.

Responsibilities:

• Interpret engineering drawings and specifications

• Attach fixtures to machine and position and secures work piece in fixture according to setup instructions.

• Select and install proper cutting tools.

• Load programs in machine control unit or enter commands to retrieve machine instructions from database.

• Manipulate controls and enter commands to index cutting tool to specified set point and to start machine.

• Observe and listen to machine operations to detect malfunctions such as worn or damaged cutting tools.

• Change cutting tools and location of work piece during machining process as specified in instructions.

• Carry out quality inspection on finished components to ensure quality standards are adhered to.

• Machine high tolerance components to drawing specifications using primarily lathe and milling machines.

• Fabricate specialty parts.

• Maintain a clean, safe, and organized work area in accordance with company standards.

• Ability to travel when required.

• Provide input into process improvements and continuous improvement initiatives.

Requirements

• Leaving Certificate or equivalent

• A minimum of 2 years’ post-qualification experience in a workshop environment.

• At least 2 years’ experience in Mechanical Field.

• Able to lift a minimum of 23 kilograms.

• Required to stand for long periods of time and may involve heavy manual labor.

• You will need to be able to stand, sit, walk, bend, stoop, reach, lift, push, pull, and carry items.

• Ability to work in environments with elevated noise levels.

• Ability to wear personal protective equipment.

• Previous experience with Lean Manufacturing and/or Six Sigma

Desirable Skills

· Previous experience with CNC Machinery.

· Ability to Programme CNC Equipment.
