Applies basic, and some intermediate technical skills and knowledge related to set up and operate numerical control machines to cut, shape, or form metallic and nonmetallic work pieces to specifications.
Performs routine developmental learning assignments and applies standard solutions to work situations of a routine or repetitive nature. May perform a variety of routine duties related to the area to which assigned.Reviews setup sheets and specifications to determine setup procedure, machining sequence, and dimensions of finished work piece. Attaches fixture to machine bed and positions and secures work piece in fixture according to setup instructions.Assembles cutting tools in tool holders and positions tool holders in machine spindles as specified or inserts cutting tools in specified machine magazines.Enters commands to retrieve pre-programmed machine instructions from database and machine control console.Manipulates controls and enters commands to index cutting tool to specified set point and start machine. Observes and listens to machine operation to detect malfunctions such as worn or damaged cutting tools.Changes cutting tools and location of work piece during machining process as specified in setup instructions. Measures work piece for conformance to specifications.
Performs other duties as required. These duties may include assignments in job classifications and departments other than the primary assignment.
Minimum High School or GED.
If applicable, a combination of experience and training may be substituted for the education requirement.
year(s) Formal technical training in operating computer numerically controlled production machines.
Must be able to work in excess of eight (8) hours per day and five (5) days per week, if required. Additionally, those who work at NORDAM Repair Division must be able to ascend and descend stairs.

While performing the duties of this job, the Stakeholder is frequently exposed to moving mechanical parts, fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, and outside weather conditions. The noise level in the work environment can vary from loud to a more moderate level.
