Job Description

The CNC Lathe Operator sets up and operates computer numerical control (CNC) lathe machines to perform machine functions such as boring, facing and threading of metallic workpieces such as soft and hard tool steel and bar stock. Mazatrol Controls experience preferred.

Essential Functions

  • Edit programs on CNC machines, setting tool registers, offsets, compensation, and conditional switches; calculating requirements, include basic math, basic geometry, and basic trigonometry; proving part programs.
  • Assists in setting-up CNC machines by installing and adjusting three – and four-jaw chucks, tools, attachments, collets.
  • Verifies settings by measuring positions, first-run part, and sample work pieces, adhering to standards.
  • Maintains specifications by observing drilling, grooving, and cutting, including turning, facing, knurling and thread chasing operations; taking measurements; detecting malfunctions; troubleshooting processes; adjusting and reprogramming controls; sharpening and replacing worn tools; adhering to quality assurance procedures and processes.
  • Maintains equipment by completing preventative maintenance requirements; following manufacturer’s instructions; troubleshooting malfunctions; calling for repairs.
  • Maintains continuity among work shifts by documenting and communicating actions, irregularities and continuing needs.
  • Maintain safe operations by adhering to safety procedures and regulations.
  • Performs other duties as required.

Qualifications

Education/Experience Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Three years of CNC experience.
  • Ability to read customer prints
  • Ability to use hand measuring tools

Other Requirements

  • Must submit to and pass background and substance abuse tests.
  • Must be able to provide proof of eligibility to work in the United States.
  • Must follow designated safety rules and regulations.
  • Responsible for performing duties in an environment that is free from discrimination, intimidation, coercion or harassment.
  • Manufacturing environment: may be exposed to fumes, airborne particles, dirt, dust and solvents.
  • Must be able to work extended hours (including weekends) as necessitated by production requirements.

Physical Requirements

  • Visual acuity for detailed work.
  • Must be able to lift and maneuver 35 pounds.

• Must be able to stand throughout the entire shift
