THE OPPORTUNITY An established sheet metal manufacturing company in Hermanstad, Pretoria, is looking for a skilled CNC Bending Operator with hands-on AMADA press brake experience to join its production team on a permanent basis. The successful candidate will set up, program and operate AMADA CNC press brakes, working from engineering drawings to bend mild steel, stainless steel, aluminium and other sheet metals accurately and efficiently. This is an onsite role suited to a precise, quality-driven operator who takes ownership of setups and tolerances and is available to start immediately. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES ▪ Machine Setup & Operation – Set up, operate and adjust AMADA CNC press brake machines; select and install the correct punches, dies and tooling. ▪ Programming – Load, run and adjust CNC bending programs; set bending angles, back gauges, bend sequences and machine parameters. ▪ Drawings & Specifications – Read and interpret engineering drawings and specifications to produce components correctly the first time. ▪ Quality Control – Perform first-off inspections and ongoing quality checks with measuring instruments, ensuring parts meet tolerance requirements. ▪ Troubleshooting – Identify and correct bending inaccuracies and setup issues. ▪ Materials & Efficiency – Work with mild steel, stainless steel, aluminium and other sheet metals while minimising material waste and maintaining production efficiency. ▪ Health, Safety & Maintenance – Follow health and safety procedures, conduct routine machine checks, report maintenance requirements and keep the work area clean and safe. ▪ Production Targets – Work with the team to meet production targets and deadlines. Requirements MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS ▪ Matric / Grade 12 (non-negotiable) ▪ Relevant technical qualification or trade-related training in metal fabrication or manufacturing ▪ Proven experience as a CNC Bending Operator or Press Brake Operator ▪ Essential: experience operating AMADA CNC press brake machines ▪ Experience with CNC machine setup, tooling selection and program adjustments ADVANTAGEOUS ▪ Experience with AMADA CNC control systems and offline programming software ▪ Experience bending complex sheet metal components to tight tolerances SKILLS & COMPETENCIES ▪ Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings ▪ Sound knowledge of: – Bend allowances and bend deductions – Material springback – Sheet metal bending processes ▪ Good mathematical and measuring skills ▪ Strong attention to detail ▪ Ability to work independently and as part of a team ▪ Commitment to quality and workplace safety IDEAL CANDIDATE PROFILE The ideal candidate is a skilled AMADA press brake operator with strong CNC setup experience, the ability to interpret technical drawings accurately and a solid understanding of sheet metal fabrication processes.
