Job Description

At Mahaska Health, a (CNA) Certified Nursing Assistant will perform duties under the supervision of an (RN) Registered Nurse, and in accordance with the established policies and procedures of Mahaska Health Partnership, will perform clerical responsibilities and assist in providing nursing care to patients.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

  • Maintains appropriate levels of forms and supplies.
  • Observe general patient conditions and report findings appropriately and document accurately.
  • Provide and/or assist with ADL’s.
  • Must be able to perform the physical demands of the job.
  • Maintains regular and reliable attendance.
  • Attend to patient needs and document accordingly.
  • Transcribe physician orders; completing all indicated forms, requisitions and communications necessary to implement orders.
  • Record and transcribe legibly and accurately.
  • File reports in appropriate patient charts and document results on Kardex. Notify nurses of abnormal results.
  • Initiate and maintain chart in functional order during admission. Disassembles chart at discharge.
  • Provide competent nursing care to patients in age specific populations, infants, pediatrics, adolescents, adults and geriatrics.
  • Dedication to customer service for patients, families, visitors, physicians and co-workers throughout the partnership.
  • Ability to accurately communicate oral and written orders.
  • Assist in maintaining a clean, safe and functional working environment and equipment.
  • Maintain census and statistical reports and keep special needs lists current.
  • Conduct self in accordance with Mahaska Health Partnership’s confidentiality policy; ensuring to follow all MHP training guidelines in accordance with the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996.
  • Adjustment in patient care according to Age Specific standard of care.
  • Commitment to the CORE Values of Mahaska Health Partnership.
  • Honor Patient’s Bill of Rights and confidentiality.
  • Prudent use of financial resources and good stewardship in using Mahaska Health Partnership supplies and sources.
  • Assist in the mentoring and orientation of new personnel to the unit.
  • Adapt to change in workload or patient assignment.
  • Attend required in-service programs and staff meetings.
  • All other duties as assigned.

REQUIREMENTS

  • High school diploma, GED or equivalent preferred.
  • Must have completed the CNA course or have equivalent education and/or experience.
  • Must be listed on the Iowa Nurse Aide Registry.
  • Completion of Basic Life Support (BLS) according to the American Heart Association.
  • Required to show proof of having completed Mandatory Reporter course at time of hire or attend within 6 months of start date
  • Ability to comprehend medical terminology.
