JOB TITLE: CN Appliance Technician

DEPARTMENT: Operations/Maintenance

REPORTS TO: Director of Maintenance

FLSA STATUS: Non-Exempt

EMPLOYMENT STATUS: Full-time, 12-month contract

MINIMUM JOB REQUIREMENTS:

Education: Universal Certification as a Refrigeration Technician by the EPA; certificate in Refrigeration Technology; certificate in HVACR; associates or technical degree preferred

Experience: Minimum 5 years journeyman experience in commercial kitchen appliance repairs and maintenance; completion of 2-year apprenticeship program preferred

Skills: Working knowledge of commercial kitchen equipment including hoods, ice machines, ranges, convection ovens, hot cabinets, coolers/freezers, fryers, dishwashers, disposals, toasters, steamers, warmers and cook tops; operating knowledge of refrigerant recovery equipment, vacuum pump gauges, scales, electronic leak detectors; comprehensive understanding of refrigeration and HVAC controls, systems devices & shop theory to include air distribution, HVAC and refrigeration electronics, pneumatic HVAC systems, thermal controls, HVAC and refrigeration safety; working knowledge of Oklahoma Health Department regulations; must possess advanced mechanical skills and ability to read and understand blueprints, schematics and O/M manuals; must possess expertise in 460 volt, AC circuit and advanced troubleshooting skills; personal computer, keyboarding, and computerized maintenance software skill

SUMMARY: Responsible for overseeing and performing preventative maintenance, equipment installation, troubleshooting and repairing commercial kitchen appliances. A comprehensive knowledge of HVAC, plumbing, refrigeration, electrical and data control systems as integrated with commercial kitchen equipment is required.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: These statements are intended to describe the responsibilities assigned to the position and are not intended to represent an exhaustive list of all responsibilities, duties and skills required.

  1. Analyze troubleshoot, install, rebuild, adjust, repair or replace all types of commercial kitchen appliance equipment as required.
  2. Perform major and/or minor repair, as well as preventative and corrective maintenance of kitchen equipment.
  3. Order and maintain inventory of appliance parts as needed.
  4. Inspect and verify the operation and safety of commercial kitchen appliances.
  5. Coordinates and prioritizes repair tasks, responding in a timely manner to provide appropriate repairs with as little downtime as possible.
  6. Attends new equipment training, training staff and demonstrating proper safe use and operation of equipment to staff.
  7. Identifies, reports and corrects unsafe conditions and practices. Recognizes the importance of safety in the workplace, follows safety rules, practices safe work habits, utilizes appropriate safety equipment and report unsafe conditions to the appropriate administrator.
  8. Identifies, documents and notifies supervisors of damage, abuse and negligent use of equipment.
  9. Tracks work orders and communicates status to appropriate personnel.
  10. Assists in management of warranties.
  11. Assists in development of preventive maintenance programs based on industry and manufacturer standards.
  12. Performs other duties as assigned.

Ability to handle problematic and/or difficult situations professionally by communicating with the appropriate person.

ATTENDANCE STATEMENT:

Able to be in attendance for assigned responsibilities with 95% attendance.

ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS: Job duties will be performed in wet/humid conditions unrelated to the weather, extremes of hot and cold weather conditions (outdoors). Work required near moving mechanical parts, in enclosed areas, and in high/precarious places; duties performed include a risk of electrical shock, exposure to fumes, airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, vibration and noise.

PHYSICAL STANDARDS:

  • Stand in place for long periods
  • Lift fifty (50) pounds
  • Walk and sitting as required to access the equipment Use of hands to do fine motor work.
  • Climbing and/or balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling Talking, hearing, tasting, smelling
  • Close, distance and color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, ability to adjust focus
