Job Description

The Generator Applications Engineer will act as the primary technical focal point for Gen ITR engineering studies, supporting as well other Conversions, Modifications, and Uprates (CM&U) services projects in the ITO phase as Applications Engineer. This role serves as the lead expert for the installed fleet in the Americas region (L-GE and L-TS). The engineer will be responsible for defining technical solutions, executing complex engineering studies, and acting as the direct interface with customers to translate technical findings into project success.

  • Primary Engineering Contact: Serve as the primary technical focal point for the Gen ITR engineering team regarding all engineering studies, including Cursory and Detailed Studies, Rating Changes, Torsional analyses, and other specialized technical evaluations.
  • Study Execution: Independently execute and assign specialized engineering studies within the team, ensuring high-quality, technically accurate, and timely deliverables.
  • Technical Customer Interface: Interact directly with external customers to explain study details, address technical inquiries, and provide clarity on complex technical outcomes.
  • ITO Process Ownership: Provide technical expertise and develop solutions (configuration, performance estimation, economics, etc.) as part of the ITO process while interfacing with commercial and sales teams.
  • Requirements Definition: Interpret customer needs to define the technical scope of supply, electromagnetic performance design/calculations, and input for cost and cycle estimations for proposals.
  • Continuous Improvement: Participate in and lead continuous improvement activities, including the maintenance and development of assigned TAG (Technical Application Guideline) codes.
  • Sales Support: Lead or attend R1 calls to determine customer requirements and define the technical scope of supply, supporting commercial teams in developing technically convincing proposals.
  • Collaboration: Coordinate with cross-functional teams, including Design Engineering, Sales, Project Management, and Field Services, to ensure technical solutions align with business objectives and internal policies.

Qualifications/Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, or Computer Science.
  • At least 8+ years of experience in design, services, repair, or reliability engineering.
  • Strong and proven experience leading L-GE and L-TS technology projects.

Desired Characteristics

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering.
  • Proven technical expertise in generator engineering studies (e.g., torsional analysis, rating changes, or similar).
  • Prior experience in managing technical programs and solving complex product reliability issues.
  • Strong customer mindset with the ability to communicate complex engineering concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
  • Solid business acumen and familiarity with the NPI (New Product Introduction) process and Lean principles.
  • Strong interpersonal, coaching, and leadership skills; demonstrated success in working across a matrixed, global organization.
  • Flexibility in the Americas time zone.

The Company pays a geographic differential of 110%, 120% or 130% of salary in certain areas.
