The CMT Field Technician will assist with field and laboratory testing of construction materials, including soils, concrete, asphalt, and aggregates, to help verify compliance with project specifications and quality standards. This position is ideal for individuals interested in the construction and engineering industry, wishing to broaden their knowledge and have a drive for growth. The successful candidate will receive on-the-job training and work under the guidance of experienced technicians and project personnel while developing technical skills, certifications, and industry knowledge. ACI Field Grade 1 Certification required

Core Responsibilities

  • Learn and perform construction materials testing for soils, concrete, asphalt, and aggregates through a combination of classroom, laboratory, and field training.
  • Assist senior technicians with sampling, testing, and inspection activities on construction projects.
  • Record and submit accurate testing data and field observations.
  • Follow established procedures to help ensure compliance with project specifications and quality standards.
  • Maintain testing equipment and keep work areas clean, organized, and safe.
  • Travel to job sites and work outdoors in varying weather conditions as needed.
  • Develop technical skills and obtain industry certifications, such as ACI, ICC and TxDOT certifications, with company support.
  • Work collaboratively with team members to deliver high-quality service to clients.
  • Adhere to all company safety policies and regulatory requirements.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

You’ll thrive here if you have

  • 0-2 years of experience in the construction industry
  • ACI Field Grade 1 Certification required
  • Proven ability to read and comprehend
  • Basic knowledge of concrete, soils, base, and asphalt pavements.
  • Willing to work outside in highway or building construction
  • Must have a valid driver’s license.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and other technical tools for material testing.
  • Preferred certifications: ACI Field Grade 1 and SB102.
  • Willing to learn TXDOT and ASTM testing procedures
  • Experience using Microsoft Word and Excel Spreadsheets
  • Proficiency in preparing and documentation
  • Ability to travel up to 50% of the time.
  • Willingness to work day or night shifts, as well as “off hours” when needed.
  • Flexibility to transition between field testing, inspection duties, and laboratory testing responsibilities as required.
  • Availability to work up to 60 hours per week, as needed.
  • Willing to learn and work any shift that is needed.
