Job Description
Tasks and Responsibilities:
CMM Programming & Metrology:
- Write, debug, optimize, and maintain offline and online CMM inspection routines using CMM Manager (or similar) software from 3D CAD models and engineering drawings.
- Apply advanced Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) principles per ASME Y14.5 to establish accurate datum frameworks and measurement alignment features.
- Design or specify custom holding fixtures, stylus configurations, and probing setups to ensure repeatable inspection routines.
QC Inspection & First Article Verification:
- Perform complex First Article Inspections (FAI) per AS9102 standards, setup inspections, and final receiving/in-process dimensional verifications.
- Utilize secondary precision measuring hand tools (micrometers, height gauges, optical comparators, pin gauges) to supplement CMM routines as needed.
- Generate clear, accurate inspection records, dimensional reports, and non-conformance (NC) reports in the QMS system.
Configuration Control & Revision Management:
- Maintain strict configuration control over CMM programs, inspection plans, and CAD files—ensuring programs strictly mirror approved engineering drawing revisions.
- Manage file folder structures, archive obsolete inspection programs, and log revision changes under controlled Quality Management System (QMS) protocols.
- Validate program changes triggered by Engineering Change Notices (ECNs) or customer drawing revisions before releasing routines to shop floor operators.
Cross-Functional Communication & Technical Collaboration:
- Communicate non-conformances, out-of-tolerance conditions, and measurement trends promptly to Quality Engineers, Processor / Machinists, and Production Leads.
- Collaborate with Manufacturing/Quality/Tooling Engineers to troubleshoot machining defects, refine fixture designs, and reduce measurement cycle times.
- Train and support quality inspectors and floor operators on standard loading procedures and basic program execution.
Equipment Calibration & Maintenance:
- Oversee routine CMM maintenance, qualify probe tips, and perform system checkouts to maintain calibration integrity.
- Assist in Gage R&R studies, measurement uncertainty analyses, and internal metrology audits.
Education & Experience:
- High School Diploma or equivalent required.
- Associate Degree or certification in CMM programming, Metrology, or Quality Technology preferred.
- 5+ years of hands-on Quality Control inspection experience in a precision manufacturing environment.
- Minimum 3+ years of direct experience creating and modifying CMM programs using 3D CAD data.
- Experience working in a regulated manufacturing environment, preferably in the aerospace & defense, medical device, or automotive industries.
- Advanced mastery of GD&T per ASME Y14.5 standards.
- Proficiency in CMM software platforms (e.g., CMM Manager, PC-DMIS).
- Solid understanding of configuration control principles and record-keeping discipline within a certified QMS.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook) and creating Adobe portfolios using document editing/archiving tools.
- Demonstrated experience working with Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) systems such as JobBoss, JD Edwards, SAP, etc.
