CMA Early Career Group program

ING’s Early Career Group (“ECG”) is a best-in-class program providing junior talent the opportunity to develop themselves to well-rounded investment bankers, by covering the core and client facing areas across ING’s Capital Markets and Advisory (“CMA”). The aim of this program is to upskill talent and prepare you for future roles in our organization. In addition to a dedicated ECG curriculum together with other ECG talents of your ‘year group’, you will receive high quality on-the-job and classroom trainings for both hard- and soft-skills which will ensure you are well-equipped to become a future, rounded investment banker.

During the program, analysts will get hands-on experience of what is involved in the day-to-day role as a junior team member across different CMA departments in Amsterdam, such as Corporate Finance, Global Capital Markets, Loan Distributions Group, Corporate Investments and Acquisition Finance. The program comprises two rotations of six month each along the three different areas: Advisory, Capital Markets and Structuring to broaden your horizons and sharpen your skills. In each rotation, you will operate as part of a team responsible for the origination, structuring, execution, and distribution of CMA transactions.

After completing the program, you will stay in your home base and put your skills to work across the highly dynamic CMA teams with like-minded people and support ING’s teams across the entire wholesale banking value chain.

Your Home Base “Debt Capital Markets – FIG”

The Debt Capital Markets group is comprised of several capital markets businesses: Financial Institutions Group (FIG), Investment Grade Corporates, High Yield, Sustainable Markets, CEEMEA and Capital Structuring & Liability Management. DCM is part of ING’s Global Capital Markets team within the Wholesale Bank. ING DCM is consistently top-ranked in DCM league tables and a credible global leader around Sustainability Structuring topics (Green Bonds, Sustainability-Linked Bond, etc.)

The FIG team in Amsterdam covers Bank and Insurance clients across Europe. In your new role, as a Junior Originator you will support the Senior Originators in the ING Debt Capital Markets (DCM) FIG origination team in Amsterdam as well as other European hubs. This with the aim to maximize ING’s chances to execute bond mandates for its client base.

The Junior Originator role covering ING FIG clients in Europe will among other things comprise the following aspects:

  • Day to day support of (senior) originators;
  • Maintaining transaction data bases and preparing market and pricing updates;
  • Initial credit analysis of potential bond issuers;
  • Preparing pitches for (potential) clients, identifying relevant pricing comparables and appropriate capital structures;
  • Assist in liaising with ING counterparts on new opportunities, identifying bond opportunities;
  • Assist in transaction structuring, whether it would be for conventional bonds or –growing in importance and volume - for sustainable bond financing solutions;
  • Assist with transaction management including drafting of Offering Memorandum, executing business Due Diligence and preparing roadshow materials;
  • Assisting in the preparation of transaction files for compliance and other internal control purposes;
  • Any ad-hoc analysis and projects as required by your manager.

Who we are looking for:

A new colleague with the following knowledge and experience:

  • Demonstrable affinity with Macro, Debt Capital Markets and Financial Markets
  • Well-rounded academic background with coursework in finance and / or economics preferred
  • Minimum of Bachelor of Science degree required, Master level preferred from an internationally acclaimed university
  • Basic knowledge of international bond markets and fixed income instruments
  • Basic macro-economic knowledge to ‘read’ the market and identify opportunities
  • Fluent in English, additional language skills are a plus
  • Excellent (English) writing and verbal communication skills
  • Advanced Power Point and Excel skills
  • Capable to read balance sheet, P&L and cash flow statements
  • Ability to work well under pressure and tight deadlines and willingness to go the extra mile
