Shift:

Day ShiftPosition is located in the Outpatient Clinic on the Maywood Campus. The Certified Medical Assistant utilizes a defined skill set consistent with the basic educational program, certification, and relevant work experience to deliver direct care to the patient in the ambulatory setting. Working under the direct supervision/licensure of the physician, the Medical Assistant is an integral member of the health care team and is responsible for coordinating the pre/intra/post aspects of the medical visit. Those include direct care, registration & scheduling, physician-patient communication and other office-related tasks.

In addition, will administer medication and works directly with other health care professionals at the site as well as ancillary department and services to coordinate care. The core Magis values of care, concern, cooperation and respect are evidenced in daily work.

Direct Care:

Provides care to the patient and support to the physician

throughout the entire visit, beginning at the time of arrival at the

reception desk, during the visit, and completion of the check out

process. This includes but is not limited to history taking, assisting with

routine tasks and procedures, telephone messaging, scheduling and visit

follow up orders. Works under the supervision of a registered

professional nurse when additional skill, assessment and expertise are

needed, or in the absence of the physician

Registration & Front office

Utilizes technical skills and knowledge of the

computerized scheduling systems to generate patient demographic info

as well as cilitate appointment scheduling and access to care.

Demonstrates capacity for attention to detail as it relates to insurance,

billing and referral processes.

Scheduling:

Demonstrates initial and ongoing competency with the enterprise's

computerized scheduling systems for clinic appointments and ancillary testing. In addition, coordinates external referrals into and out of the system when

requested or ordered by the physician. Routinely reviews physician schedules to identify opportunities to improve patient access and/or reduce wait times,

maximize staff/physician productivity and maintain clinic flow

Telephone & Communications:

Serves as the primary source of contact for clinical operations within the department. Deals promptly, directly and completely with messages from patients and physicians.

Scribe

Serves as the "live" recorder of the Physician visit with the patient.

Is proficient in the physician documentation templates and protects

confidentiality of patient's personal health information (PHI). Follows all

rules of documentation within EPIC.

Age Specific Competencies:

Demonstrates knowledge of the principles of growth and development for the appropriate age span of the units patients. The age span of the unit's patients is:

School Age, Adolescence, Young Adult, Middle Adult & Geriatrics

Minimum Education:

Required: High School Diploma plus training acquired through work experience or education

Preferred: Administrative or technical background acquired through completion of 2 - 3 years

of college

Specify Degree(s): Successful completion of accredited medical assistant program

Minimum Experience:

Preferred: 1-2 years of previous job-related experience

Details: Ambulatory experience in primary or specialty setting is preferred.

Required Licensure/Certifications:

Must possess at least one (1) of the following Medical Assistant credentials:

Certified Medical Assistant (CMA)

American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA)

Registered Medical Assistant (RMA)

American Medical Technologists (AMT)

National Center for Competency Testing (NCCT)

National Healthcareer Association (NHA)

CPR by the American Heart Association

Successful completion of Loyola's phlebotomy training program is required. Must complete Loyola's math exam with a score of 100% for medication administration Must maintain/demonstrate competency for the 'home base' clinical area as well as at least one other specialty clinic as appropriate to the clinic location
